Anyone else preparing for FET April 2024

1000 replies

blahblahetc · 19/02/2024 15:18

Hello, wondering if anyone is preparing for an FET in April?

This will be my 3rd transfer. 1st one implanted but early loss, second (euploid) and third (untested) did not implant. I'm waiting to do a hysteroscopy next week + an ERA following week prior to transfer in April.

We decided against testing this time, and are wondering whether or not to do a double transfer. Our embryos are AA/ABs so want to feel hopeful but fully aware of the possible failure(s) ahead of us..

That made me chuckle @lemons44 picturing someone lose it with a slow cooker 😂(I’m very impatient so I’m thinking “hurry up u stupid thing”).

I’m on Fematab (estrogen) 2mg x 3 and cyclogest (progesterone) 400mg x 3 daily, until Friday then wait for a bleed then start again on day 2 of period.

Hi. Can I join. I’m having my FET tomorrow but OTD won’t be until April. Hope everyone is doing ok on this rollercoaster.

blahblahetc · 27/03/2024 20:29

Hi @charliegirl77 welcome! How are you preparing for it? Is this your first? Do you have any plans post transfer? I can’t wait for mine now..

@lemons44 haha I hear you! I get really aggy before my period every month and it’s just worse when on IVF medication.

@blahblahetc oh I see that makes sense. Very interesting you do Chinese medicine, have you picked it up specifically for IVF or do you always use it?

charliegirl77 · 27/03/2024 23:06

Hi and Thanks @blahblahetc. I have a 3 year old daughter from a previous FET. This is our last remaining embryo to try for a sibling. I’m not sure what we will do if this doesn’t work. Probably take a little time and decide.

We actually went to the clinic last summer to use our last embryo but they found polyps on my womb lining so had to get those removed. Last weeks scan showed a potential one but on the cervix not lining, very small but consultant was happy to go ahead.

@blahblahetc where are you at? How long away from transfer?

Good luck everyone else.

blahblahetc · 28/03/2024 07:02

Hi @Steph2345 It was a friend who recommended the TCM, said it helped some of her friends conceive naturally.. I made my husband (he has low motility, morphology and overall lazy sperm) take it for one round and that was our best round.. so it must have done something right 🤔

hi @charliegirl77 we sound like we are in similar situations. I have a little one from a successful round and this is our only frostie.
Good luck today!

blahblahetc · 28/03/2024 07:10

@charliegirl77 Thats lovely! I really hope I have a daughter in this life.. My mother always said a daughter is for life 😊

If you have the energy and financial ability, I recommend you consider going abroad for treatment. That is if you are want to go for it again. I did 4 cycles + a DuoStim in total so 6 collections!

This will be my fourth transfer (second FET) and I was waiting for my ERA results. It came in this week and technically I could have the FET done tomorrow but I had already made other plans (and are a lot of junk) when they told me last Friday it’s cancelled because results not ready.. I hope my period comes next week so I can officially start prepping for it.

All the best for your FET today!

Hi everyone that's joined recently, and good luck on your transfers!

@blahblahetc good to hear your ERA results came back, what did they advise?

@charliegirl77 I had a polyp too following my last EC so had a Hysteroscopy. I'm on a natural FET to try and avoid it happening again

blahblahetc · 28/03/2024 08:44

@Sunflower360 I'm pre-receptive, so day 20 is ideal. Was looking up my old notes, never had a day 20 transfer so hoping this one works!

@charliegirl77 I also had a hysteroscopy done, and they found no issues. To be fair, the Prague doctor didn't really want to do it - he explained the normal scans would normally detect something and he didn't find anything to be concerned of, and it's not a 'standard test' for everybody. The Create doctor was the one who ordered it, and because it's 1/3 the price, I thought I'd just get it done for peace of mind.

@blahblahetc if this round doesn’t go well I’d be keen to hear about your Prague experience and how you got to that decision etc (i mean how you decided on the clinic and the country). We have paid for this round in the UK so the bank is empty now.

Sunflower360 · 28/03/2024 11:25

@blahblahetc that's interesting. So will you transfer on CD 20?

blahblahetc · 28/03/2024 12:47

@Sunflower360 Our bank is empty too! I've put aside just enough for the next 1-3 FETs (I have 6 blasts and a day3 - and I'm thinking double transfers as I havent tested the embryos..). I can write a 3-part book to document my 2022-2024 rollercoaster journey so far!

I feel that I've rushed into things when my first and only "free" cycle failed. I was in such a hurry I got sucked into the private clinic (Create) without first exploring my options. I am very disappointed with Create and really wish I've used that money in Prague instead. I mean, it's not a success (with Prague) (yet), but the experience has been so much more pleasant.. we all know stress and anger doesn't help with the IVF outcome so dealing with incompetency after spending so much money makes me feel very unjustified.

I was initially looking into Spain and Greece (one of the virtual GPs I spoke to had success in Spain and told me not to spend my money with the private clinics in the UK, wish I met her sooner). I actually chanced upon a 'Praga Medica' post on mumsnet and asked the OP the initial questions; and subsequently sent an enquiry to the clinic. There is also a FB group available so I joined that too. It felt that there was a lot of support available even before I started the journey with treatment abroad so that was a positive.

I haven't had any other experience abroad; I went with Prague because I thought it was the cheapest (and money was running low at that point) and easiest to get to and from. The initial consultation was free and they will only give you your plan when you have paid a deposit, I thought that was fair. Again - I'm comparing a lot of this to Create so I'm not happy I had to pay the £200 just to have an initial consultation with Create. I think that amount is also inconsistent with different patients.

I find that the Prague clinic is more attentive and sensitive towards the patient i.e., my doctor really dug into my notes to understand the situation. I am quite a straightforward case to be fair: early 40s, lazy and abnormal sperm, no other issues apart from NK cells and clotty blood. They will make a recommendation but does not try and upsell. I asked for the hysteroscopy and he checked that I absolutely am sure I want to do that because he doesn't think it necessary. The first FET is included in the package (unlike Create) so that's a plus. There is no faffing about with the appointments, they see people on time and not so many scans required. Overall it felt more efficient. You go in, you have a scan, you get an updated plan - It felt that they are a lot more experienced than Create. I mean, they aren't perfect, there were some mistakes administratively made but always quickly rectified.. English isn't their first language so I keep that in consideration to not be too critical.

Out of the 6 blasts, 2 of them (+ the day 3) are with Create; and I'm transporting them next week back to the NHS clinic (as a private patient). I looked into transporting that to Prague but that's just money I don't have... an FET as a private patient with NHS is half what Create is charging. I had to pay a release fee so not happy about that too, but I'm glad I don't have to deal with them anymore after next week.

Sorry for the long post (my longest yet!), hope it's helpful!

@Sunflower360 oh and yes, I'll be transferring on day 20. Just hoping AF arrives next week so I can start the countdown :) Do you have a date for your next FET?

OP posts:
Sunflower360 · 28/03/2024 13:18

@blahblahetc sounds like you've done your research! Hopefully it all works out. I'm due the first scan on Monday so will know in that how the lining etc is doing as I'm doing natural FET, so it all depends when/if my body decides to ovulate. But if it was like last month then could be mid April sometime for a transfer

Sunflower360 · 28/03/2024 13:24

@blahblahetc are you hoping to get some resolution about the CD 13 transfer with Create now you have your ERA results? Not really sure what is normal in terms of transfer days for medicated FETs as I thought it was just based on lining thickness as its controlled but I've only done natural FET so far

Steph2345 · 28/03/2024 13:49

@blahblahetc thank you that is really interesting. I was actually told I couldn’t move my frostie into the EU very easily hence why I have stayed here. There are a lot more options abroad aren’t there

blahblahetc · 28/03/2024 14:01

@Sunflower360 Keeping fingers crossed for you and hope we might be transfer buddies!

Yes, I have emailed the nurse and just waiting for her response. Not sure what I'm trying to get out of this at the moment; perhaps just to get an understanding of why it was done that way when everywhere you search on Google states day 20-24 for optimal implantation... it is a lot off so trying to make sense of it.

OP posts:
blahblahetc · 28/03/2024 14:03

@Steph2345 Yes, you can transfer to EU.. if you have a clinic already, they will have contacts for you. They do all of it.. pick up, airport etc. It is daylight robbery though what they are charging!

OP posts:
Sunflower360 · 28/03/2024 14:03

@blahblahetc thanks! Is it a question you can ask your current clinic to get their thoughts on it in the meantime?

blahblahetc · 28/03/2024 14:12

@Sunflower360 Hmm I havent actually thought of that, I might do... I'm worried I will get annoyed again if they think that was a weird approach!

OP posts:
Sunflower360 · 28/03/2024 15:24

@blahblahetc well yes there is that and reality is it is in the past, as hard as it is. I'm not really sure how medicated FETs work in that respect because if there is an ideal implantation window I'm not sure how that would be ascertained if they are controlling the cycle and solely looking at lining thickness. If lining thickness builds up quick does that supersede the ideal implantation window? All a bit confusing!

Steph2345 · 28/03/2024 16:24

@Sunflower360 im on medicated FET and just had my first (and only) scan. I will start the progesterone on Saturday while keeping up with the estradiol and my transfer will be Thursday next week. It is literally just based on lining thickness, the whole of my natural hormones have been completely switched off so the clinic has control. The scan today was to check how my body was doing and how well it was responding. If they felt that a few more days were needed they would have re-scanned me after this weekend (and I wouldn’t be starting progesterone until after they are happy) and then delay the transfer until my lining is at the minimum thickness they want.
it feels really strange to not have a trigger or ovulation but I have to trust that they know what they are doing

Sunflower360 · 28/03/2024 16:54

@Steph2345 ah ok I see. So 26th ERA testing how does that come into play witg medicated FET? I was considering it if this 2nd FET didn't work but just trying to understand it more

Sunflower360 · 28/03/2024 16:54

Ignore 26th, typo!
