Hey
I am a 30 year old women trying to conceive-
Currently trying to find a good IVF clinic - awaiting to see if I’m eligible on the NHS

Does anyone have any experience with IVF treatment at Guys Hospital ? NHS or private ?

  • how long did it take for your funding to be accepted?
  • what was the waiting times like ?
  • was you successful?
  • how did you find the doctors/consultants?
  • did the male partners BMI have to be included ?

I’d appreciate any response :)

Thanks for sharing ladies in this IVF thread. I am curious about your experiences with the consultants at guys during this process. Has it been good and as you expected when you decided to go with guys?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a consultant. Are you using the Guy’s private arm? I’ve seen a couple of fellows but mostly all nurse led, this is NHS round though.

ive found out everyone I’ve seen to be lovely. My journey has been a rocky one personally with my first cycle being semi-abandoned due to my partners accident. All the staff did their utmost to support me, helped me extend my funding with the CCG board etc so it would stretch to thawing eggs and continuing with ICSI now.

Even yesterday the nurse who did my scan was the first person I saw back in January when I was crying my eyes out over my partner, she remembered me and asked how he was doing, came out and met him to say she was glad he was better etc.

Couldnt ask for more personal care considering the amount of people they see!

No, I am not. I am with them through NHS but I have heard good things about some of their consultants so thinking about going private. So I guess my question was also not only about the private consultants but the Doctors there :)

Personally, I have had a good experience but some things really annoys me which is I feel like I am being juggled around between doctors and that nobody seems to have the "overall" picture. I guess this is just a part of them being a very busy clinic so no one's fault but I do feel like there are some things that falls through the cracks. And because I am being juggled around I feel like there is different opinions everytime so I guess I am just scared that what we are doing is not the best approach.

I am sorry to hear about your experience and especially with your partner. I hope you are both OK now. I agree, the nurses are wonderful!

Wanted to pop in and give my experience. I’m private with Guys after a horrific experience with a Harley street clinic and I can’t recommend them enough for private. I deal with one consultant and one only. He arranges all my scans, tests and seems to be on call whenever I need him. He knows my case and background inside out and it’s great not having to repeat myself.

Has anyone had pain or cramping after taking Triptorelin (Decapeptyl) as a trigger shot ? Had it last night now I’m very swollen with intermittent cramps

LIVFingOnAPrayer19 · 01/05/2024 07:36

@CEllenx sorry, didn't trigger with decapeptyl so can't help. I don't remember feeling cramps with the trigger I had. Hope your egg collection goes well x

CEllenx · 02/05/2024 06:41

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 thanks for replying, turns out I was just worrying for no reason as I hadn’t ovulated before the EC.
I forgot to ask did you get a written embryo grading report from Guys , or do they just tell you over the phone ? X

LIVFingOnAPrayer19 · 02/05/2024 07:39

@CEllenx hope your EC went well.

They didn't tell me grades. She gave me a day 1 update over the phone. Then on day 5 said I had one good quality blastocyst. They left the other 7 developing for another 24hrs. Had another 1 to freeze. Few days after this i received an email from the embryologist stating what they had frozen (again no grading).

CEllenx · 02/05/2024 13:00

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 Egg collection went well thanks just bloated +++ now ! Had 37 eggs collected and they just rang me to say I had 29 eggs fertilised I’m in bloody shock !

with your prep for FET did you have to email them after you had your 1st proper period or just before it starts to get the meds ? I can’t remember what they told me to do

xxx

@CEllenx wow that's a fantastic result!

So you will have a withdrawal bleed between 5-14 days after EC. Then you wait for the next period. You will probably have to email them when that is expected so that they can get all the medication to you. Then on day 1 of that cycle you email them again and have a scan cd12-14. You start the meds on CD1.

@Janefx40 I have had lots of issue with them too and communication (as have two friends I made through the process) and this is something I have been trying to find out. I've found the comms were pretty awful since i first started way back in 2017, though I personally haven't experienced rudeness.. I've had two pregnancies and two miscarriages. I have one frozen left so it's my last chance - they did bloods at the start of march and I still haven't been able to get an answer as to what the results of my bloods mean and if i need any further tests - 3 months I've been chasing via multiple different sources. Honestly my last email was basically begging someone to respond to me and still no one cares, it's so disheartening.

I wasn't sure if you could transfer a frozen to do your cycle at another clinic but now I know you can I'll be giving that some serious consideration as given I can't even get an answer about bloods I hold very little hope about comms during my FET. The communication just makes the whole process so much more stressful that it needs to be.

Honestly I am so jealous that this has been your experience with them.

Hoppy1985 · 18/06/2024 08:10

It's so long since I did my last FET (first due to COVID, then two accidents that hospitalized me) and I am after someone who's done it recently to give me a start to finish reminder of how it works - when do I need to tell them, which meds do I take and when (i remember progesterone, pessaries of some kind and ?Buselerin?)

Has anyone done a FET really recently that can give me a reminder?

LouP87 · 18/06/2024 14:35

@Hoppy1985 my FET has been successful so far and I’m currently 10 weeks.

when I was ready I emailed the IVF Nurses email address - they responded asking general questions about my next three cycle dates, weight and height and whether I was taking folic acid daily.

after this they told me which cycle to start and arranged my medication to be delivered - progesterone pessaries and estrogen tablets. They also sent me a word document with all the steps on it until positive or negative pregnancy test.

start meds on first day of cycle, monitoring scan booked for just over two weeks into that cycle. If all ready then schedule of embryo transfer for a few days later.

Oh I'm so glad your FET was successful. I hope you continue to have a happy pregnancy and thanks for responding. I'm also really glad your experience as an NHS patient at guys has been more positive than most I've seen.

Am I right in thinking you take Buserelin first, go for the down-reg scan then they get you to start taking the tablets and pessaries? Honestly it feels like a lifetime ago for me that I did my last FET so i just don't remember anything and I guess drug protocols could potentially have changed too.

LouP87 · 18/06/2024 16:02

They didn’t scan me until cycle day 18, no buserlin either - although everyone can be different!

Hoppy1985 · 19/06/2024 13:13

Does anyone who's private at Guy's know if they offer embryo glue as an option?

CEllenx · 20/06/2024 08:38

Hey guys I’ve emailed the IVf nurses twice now to schedule my FET and no one has replied - is anyone else having trouble communicating with them ? Or is there another email ? X

This is certainly the email they tell you to contact. Certainly don't bother with the "info" one - no one responds to that. Maybe put in the subject line it's your 3rd time of emailing so it might jump out?

Hoppy1985 · 20/06/2024 10:07

And yes, I've had lots of trouble. Good luck!

Mo99y · 24/09/2024 11:33

Hi everyone, has anyone had IVF (short cycle) at Guys Hospital? I have misplaced a document they gave us in our last appointment which is a timeline showing each stage of the process alongside when each medication is taken. I can’t believe I’ve lost it this document but it’s been a valuable point of reference while we’ve been trying to plan the logistics with work etc. I’ve asked Guys if they can email it to me a few times now but as yet haven’t had any luck.

Does anyone by any chance have this document please and if so, would you be happy to send me a screen shot of it? We would be so grateful.

Thank you in advance 🙂

Hoppy1985 · 24/09/2024 13:06

I was wondering if anyone has done a private funded PGT-M /PGD cycle with Guy's?
