Guys hospital IVF

I am a 30 year old women trying to conceive-
Currently trying to find a good IVF clinic - awaiting to see if I’m eligible on the NHS

Does anyone have any experience with IVF treatment at Guys Hospital ? NHS or private ?

• how long did it take for your funding to be accepted?
• what was the waiting times like ?
• was you successful?
• how did you find the doctors/consultants?
• did the male partners BMI have to be included ?

I’d appreciate any response :)

If it gives some reassurance, my AMH is 6 and they just retrieved 8 mature eggs for collection, not much more than they’ve said to you but as your AMH is higher than mine, you could get more!

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 did you and your partner both have your tests done before or after your referral was sent ? X

@CEllenx I had day 3 & 21 bloods plus several ultrasounds (to monitor cysts) before we were referred. DP also had bloods and ultrasound before referral. As we have severe MFI we had also seen a private urologist too.

We've been under guys for 2 years now having various tests, surgery etc.

@LouP87 how is your IVF going - hope it’s going well ? Do they only implant 1 embryo ?

Hey 🙂 long story short my journey is on hold - my partner ended up having quite a serious accident 3 days before egg collection and needs 12 weeks of recovery.

we went ahead with my egg collection at Guy’s after I explained our situation - had to get proof from the hospital my partner was in which wasn’t nice, but needed something to alter our NHS funding.

ended up retrieving 8 mature eggs which are now all frozen at Guys, when my partner is up for it they will defrost and fertilise - see what happens.

we were told at Guys the whole way through that they only transfer one embryo

Hi . I’m still waiting,because they lost my husband’s blood test ,so he had to do them again, few days a go we received an email from the nurse telling us I have appointment with the nurse on the 6th of march .i will start injections around the 5th of April and egg retrieval around the 22 of April. 🤞

@CEllenx we have just started first ivf cycle. Been a bit of a wait as my cycles are irregular.

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 mine are irregular too - do they give you the option of resetting your cycle to start it earlier or do they like to wait for it to naturally come ? X

@CEllenx they seem to wait for it to start naturally. I've seen other clinics give medications for 10 days to set a start date. When I spoke to the nurse about my cycle dates and explained I have irregular cycles, she said I could only be a day or two late 🙄 not very helpful! I'm 2 weeks late and I think the stress of worrying that it will get pushed back another month certainly didn't help.

I forgot to ask does Guys use Embryo glue for their implantation?

@Chakar how long did it take to get your results back ?

@CEllenx did you get an answer about embryo glue? I was going to ask this when I get to start my FET.

Took about 3 weeks ,but they still lost my husband test results again. For the second time.

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 nope I emailed them and they said they would get back to me but haven’t ! @Chakar cant believe they lost your results again ! There a nightmare when it comes to results and communication! Had mine 2 weeks ago haven’t heard one word

@CEllenx just thought I'd let you know. Guys do not use EmbryoGlue. They said there isn't enough evidence to support it.

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 thanks for letting me know : that’s so weird they say that because I just watched a video of one of their consultants saying theres lots of evidence to support it , it’s proberly about money ! I’m still waiting for the nurses to contact me about starting they take forever to respond ! Hope your IVF is going okay x

@CEllenx it probably is, especially when you're NHS funded.
How long have you been waiting? From my consultation/being put on start list - they contacted me within 3 weeks for my cycle dates and put me on the list for Feb. They've been responsive. My last email was Friday and they've called today to answer my questions.

@Chakar can't believe they've lost your results again. They couldn't find my partners results of 2 semen analysis'. I threatened to put in a complaint if someone did not contact me to discuss by the end of the next day, which they didn't, so I submitted a complaint and threatened to escalate to HFEA if not resolved. one of their consultants called me pretty quickly and accused me of lying and said that I'd upset him with my words! That didn't go down well with me and he quickly retracted when I could give dates and times of the tests which he then found! 🙄

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 hope your IVF is going well - did they wait for your period to come naturally in the end ? - I remember you said yours was 2 weeks late ? Mine are so irregular ! - I’ve got my appointment with the nurses next week! Do they give you the options to bring on your period with tablets ? Xxx

@CEllenx yes I was 2 weeks late and they were fine about it. There was no mention of medications to bring it on.

@LIVFingOnAPrayer19 that’s good ! Are you doing long or short protocol ? Fresh or frozen transfer ? X

@CEllenx I did short protocol. Ended up doing a freeze all as I developed OHSS.
