Clomid private prescription

Before I conceived my daughter, we were referred through our GP to our local NHS fertility clinic. They then told us that they wouldn’t treat us until I lost weight. I went away, got my BMI down to what they wanted, only to be told by the doctor when we went back (a different one to the one we’d seen the first time) that my BMI was still too high. After a bit of a battle she agreed we could try clomid and I was lucky enough to get pregnant.

I would really like to try and have another baby (age not on my side) but am very wary of going through the same thing again. I’d like to try clomid again if I can. Can you get that through a private prescription?

Have you tried naturally yet?

I took clomid to conceive my first and now 18 months later I am 27 weeks pregnant with my second and didn’t use anything.

But to answer your question yes you can get clomid through a private prescription. That is how I got mine the first time round.

SweetLorelei · 20/11/2023 22:05

I think it's unlikely to happen naturally as I have PCOS among other things. Thank you for your reply @Clomid1 - how did you get your prescription?

I also have PCOS but with my first the nhs just kept sending me away so I gave up and went private to get clomid.

I asked my nhs GP to recommend a consultant I could go to privately. He found someone that his patients had said was good and recommended him. I then called the private hospital and booked an appointment with him.

in my initial consultation I went to him with all my reports etc. He then arranged for me to have a HSG scan because i had never had one before and I think you can’t prescribe clomid without checking tubes are clear first?

Then once the hsg was done we had another appointment where he gave me the clomid prescription.

I fell pregnant naturally after the HSG apparently it can do that. But I then miscarried. Then I took clomid and had my little girl.

I can’t remember prices well but I think it was around £350 for initial consultation then £250 for follow up. HSG was expensive maybe £1500? It was all covered by my health insurance so a bit rough on the figures…

@Clomid1 how did you get it? What’s the process please?

Clomid1 · 24/06/2024 20:48

@gtx1797h I’ve explained the process on the post from 21/11/2023. But to summarise you need a private prescription from a consultant to get it privately.

@Clomid1 thank you so much! Was it a gynaecologist you went to when referred
im
so desperate sorry for all the questions x

Clomid1 · 25/06/2024 14:42

Hi, yh I went to see a gynaecologist :).
There is meant to be a more natural clomid you could try (I’ve copied this from some one elses mumsnet post):

Soya Isoflavones are derived from soya beans. They have been dubbed “the natural Clomid,”
As they work in pretty much an identical manner.
Just like Clomid; Soya Isoflavones work by tricking your body into thinking its low on oestrogen. Your body then kick starts production of FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone) followed by LH (Luteinizing hormone) Which are both necessary to release Healthy Eggs during ovulation.
FSH is released at the start of the menstrual cycle; it stimulates the growth of an immature egg into a fully matured egg. When the egg has matured your body then releases a surge of LH. LH is the hormone that tells the ovary to release the egg.

WHEN?
You take Soy Isoflavones, like Clomid, on either CD 1-5 , 2-6, 3-7 , 4-8 or 5-9.
If you take soy Isoflavones during the later time bracket, for example CD5-9, you shall strengthen the egg that has already started growing producing a healthier egg. The earlier in your cycle you take It, the higher your chance of releasing multiple eggs but these eggs will not be as mature as the eggs grown from taking Soya later.
A lot of women will choose the middle cycle (3 -7) allowing time for a strong and healthy egg to develop without erasing the chance of a second egg being developed and released.

1-5 = you produce more eggs, and ovulate sooner, with a stronger ovulation.

2-6 = you produce more eggs that usual, but not as many as taking it 1-5. Eggs may be more mature, and ovulation will be slightly more strong than 1-5.

3-7 = The best of both worlds, a few more eggs, and all eggs will be strong & mature, and ovulation will be alot stronger than 1-5.

4-8 = No more eggs will be produced, but the ones already there, will be matured alot more than usual, and ovulation will be very strong. Ovulation may only be brought forward a teeny bit.

5-9 = You'll have one very mature strong egg, from the ones you already produced on your own. Ovulation will either happen when it usually does, or a few days later, but your egg will be of great quality.

DOSE?
The dose is really down to you but you should always use the lowest amount that works for you.
With Clomid the starting dose is 100mg. Soya Isoflavones are said to be half the strength of Clomid, so it makes sense for the starting dose to be 100mg.
The trouble with 100mg of soya is that the capsules tend to come as 40mg. So you have a choice of starting at 80mg.
Some women change the dose on different days. So they may start at 120mg for the first 3 days then give an extra boost for the last 2 days with 160mg.

As I have said though, use the lowest dose possible for yourself. If you ovulate using 120mg/day stick to that for a few cycles. GIVE IT A CHANCE. It is said that it takes 3months to get the full benefits of what you are taking. NEVER EXCEED 200mg/day.

OTHER BENEFITS?
The following potential health benefits are attributed to Isoflavones:
Reduce heart disease risk
Protect against prostate problems
improve bone health
Reduce cancer risk

SIDE EFFECTS?
As with any medication, taking Soya Isoflavones may cause side effects such as:
Nausea
Headaches
Dizziness
Hot flushes
Night sweats
Cramping
Diarrhoea
Lack of fertile cm
Thrush
Obviously the higher the dose you take the higher your chance of experiencing side effects.

DO NOT TAKE SOYA ISOFLAVONES WITHOUT CONSULTING A DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
Breast cancer, hepatic disease, prostate cancer, kidney disease, taking hormone treatments, thyroid disease, and allergies to soy, peanuts or other legumes.
Soy Isoflavones should not be taken while breastfeeding or pregnant.
Soy Isoflavones may interact with the following medications; androstenedione, antibiotics, clomiphene, DHEA, contraceptives and other female hormones, finasteride, raloxifene, red clover, tamoxifen, testosterone and other male hormones, thyroid hormones, and toremifene.
NOTE: Just like Clomid, Soya Isoflavones may not help some women at all!
Although research carried out on FF has shown that 77% of women taking Soya Isoflavones on the stated days at the stated doses, got there BFP on their first cycle taking them!

You can get soy isoflavones in your local tesco.

gtx1797h · 25/06/2024 17:44

Thank you so much I have the soy and will be taking it again from tomorrow (currently day 2 of cycle)
I tried it last month hence now desperate haha x @Clomid1

Clomid1 · 28/06/2024 22:00

@gtx1797h try it for 2 more cycles I’d say. Clomid didn’t work for me first cycle. It was the second cycle it worked.

how long have you been trying

gtx1797h · 28/06/2024 22:52

Thank you and I will defo give it a good go this month! I’m desperate to be honest

gtx1797h · 28/06/2024 23:13

@Clomid1 miscarriage was in October I had my d & c October 4th so November first cycle I guess this will be the 9th cycle
thinking it’s not going to happen now

Clomid1 · 29/06/2024 17:50

@gtx1797h sorry to hear about the miscarriage, i had a miscarriage in Jan 21 and did not get pregnant until October 21 that was with clomid

Clomid1 · 29/06/2024 17:51

@gtx1797h it will happen. Don’t lose hope. The fact you got pregnant once is a good sign. If soy doesn’t work in 2 more cycles give clomid ago. Definitely think it will work for you :).

gtx1797h · 29/06/2024 21:00

That’s given me so much hope @Clomid1 ill keep you posted on the soy x

gtx1797h · 02/07/2024 10:41

@Clomid1 day 8 of my cycle now and finishing up the soy isolflavanes
something must be happening as I’ve got nausea which is im assuming the eastrogen. We have DTD every other day so far so fingers crossed
will update in under 2 weeks
just FYI I have progesterone pesaries which I was going to start 3DPO aswell as I know they use them in IVF so I miraculously got them from the GP after lots of convincing as I get hormonal headaches but the packaging gives the IVF instructions so going to follow that and see if it works what do you think??

gtx1797h · 02/07/2024 10:42

*oestrogen sorry for the typo!

Clomid1 · 06/07/2024 20:56

@gtx1797h How did you convince your GP to give you that 😁😁😁?

well if you have them and have been told how to use them go for it.

Have you been using ovulation kits or tracking your temperature?

gtx1797h · 08/07/2024 11:45

@Clomid1 hey I get headaches spot on one week before period so I know I’m out if you get me so I just assumed it was linked to a drop in progesterone
the doc initially said no because they know I’m TTC and won’t help but progesterone is on the green dispensary list so if it’s needed medically they have to prescribe!

quick update re SOY ISO while im here
very very strong ovulation this month on CD14 (LH surge) this is the latest I’ve ovulated since I last conceived
I am praying this works and will update you in two weeks time
today is CD15 and I can defo feel strong ov pains on and off

Clomid1 · 08/07/2024 20:27

@gtx1797h Amazing I have my fingers crossed for you!

Try and keep yourself busy. Do not test early! Wait until you miss your period. Until then keep yourself distracted.

Feel free to have a chat with me if you want to keep your mind off

gtx1797h · 13/07/2024 00:39

Hey @Clomid1 can I ask your thoughts on this, about a week before I’m due on I get a headache for a few hours for a day which I mentioned before. Randomly I’ve never bothered noting if I did or didn’t get the headache the month I conceived
do you think having the headache would indicate that I’m out or would that not be an issue?
im wracking my brain on this one!

Clomid1 · 13/07/2024 14:33

@gtx1797h I wouldn’t use the headache as a guide at all. I had all my period symptoms including spotting when I conceived my daughter. I had no pregnancy symptoms so I was very sure I was getting my period.

Clomid1 · 19/07/2024 21:39

@gtx1797h how are you?

gtx1797h · 21/07/2024 12:16

@Clomid1 im good! Still as confused as ever. When implantation was expected I had the most awful low down pain like physical ovary pain (kept me up at night) that disappeared the next day. Fine since
now period is due tomorrow I guess because I ovulated late. I’m nauseous, cervix high and wet (always firm at this stage), diarrhoea and no sign of AF. Who knows. Fingers crossed for me. Currently 13DPO and on CD28. Cycle where it was pre MC

Clomid1 · 21/07/2024 15:18

@gtx1797h ooo 13dpo already. How long are your cycles?
