Just had my egg collection... what sort of pain is normal?

Hello,
As the subject says; I've had my egg collection today.
During the procedure i remember being in pain. They told my partner they had to give me all the drugs they had preparded. Lluckily i then fell asleep during most of it.
Anyway it's been 9 hours since and it hurts the most when I go to the bathroom, and when i walk around, is this usual ? It's not unbearable. I've mostly been in bed all day.

I'm having a freeze all cycle. They managed to get 10 eggs. I had about 20 follicles at my last scan with about 16 big enough but my left ovary is very high so I'm guessing they weren't able to get to it.

Anyway I am wondering how long I'll be in pain and bloated for ?

Thanks

When I had egg collection my stomach area felt a bit tender and heavy, like that day before period feeling but I wasn't really in any pain but my clinic did get a pain killer rectally. Do you know if you were given this? I was advised I could take paracetamol if needed for pain.

If it continues you may want to call your clinic to make sure you aren't at risk of OSHH.

Rest is needed but being in bed all day probably doesn't help, frequent and smaller walks around js better.

Thank you for replying.
Um I don't think I got any medication rectally, i got midazalam and fentanyl through IV during the procedure. I have been taking paracetamol since being home. :)
I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens.

The first 2 days were the worst for me. I had 22 eggs and the pain went after 5 days. I would recommend to keep taking paracetamol, and if that's not enough, co-codemol. I was told it would only be some discomfort and I could go back to work the next day. It was worse for me and I've read that others have had similar experiences.

Thank you for replying. I'm sorry you had pain too.
It hurts when I'm walking around so I'm kinda having to walk around bent over. Not ideal. Hopefully tomorrow will be better :)
I find out tomorrow if any of the eggs have fertilised ...have a feeling none of them well but maybe that's self preservation.

Thank you. I can understand you feel that way to prevent disappointment. I was quite anxious too, and after was worrying about how many made it to being an embryo. It's a difficult process. Well done on making it so far, try to treat yourself with kindness xx

After my first collection I spent all day/night in bed, the pain down below started within half hour of getting in the car and I couldn’t sit on my bum without shooting pains going through me, I walked to the house hunched over too.
Taje done painkillers and a hot water bottle. It continues through to the next evening. I was completely give day 3. I had 14 follicles collected.

My second collection they managed to get 8 follicles and didn’t feel a single thing after. I’m now convinced it was mild OHSS but never contacted the clinic for feedback. If it continues or gets worse I’d contact the clinic for further feedback. Good luck for tomorrows call 🤞🏼

Are you with a south west clinic? The drugs you listed are what I was given during egg collection and it was rubbish, I was fully conscious and felt a lot of pain. I'm surprised it's legal. Curious to know if it was the same clinic!

Hiya. Interesting, Yea it was a South West clinic! Sorry you were in pain too.

Just got the call from the embryologist...only 3 eggs out of 10 have fertilised, even using ICSI.. and they said they could only try fertilising 8 of them so dont know what was wrong with those 2 eggs. Hope we even get one embryo that makes it.

Anyway hope everyone is doing well and has a nice day.

Just want to say once i got given more drugs I didn't feel anything and fell asleep so I don't think this is a usual experience to feel pain. Also for context I find transvaginal ultrasounds abit painful because of endometriosis so I just have shit insides that are maybe more sensitive .

I was in a really bad pain after my second collection (first and third was not painful at all). I think it was due to mild OHHS. I was incredibly bloated and sore before the procedure too.

After the procedure, it was painful to go to the toilet, sneeze, walk. I think I was in pain for about a week. Paracetamol and buscopan were my friends.

Holskey · 11/10/2023 01:25

I had 27 eggs collected. Woke up in quite severe pain. I was crying. They diagnosed OHSS straight away and froze all my embryos. The pain wasn't unmanageable after leaving. Painful for about a week, and very bloated and uncomfortable.

Make sure to discuss with your clinic if you're planning a fresh transfer. Good luck!
