For those who've done fresh or frozen natural transfers, did you start your period before your OTD?

Hi everyone,

Can anyone who's had either a fresh transfer or a frozen natural transfer with progesterone pessaries tell me whether or not they started their period before their official test date?

I'm currently 5dp6dt after doing a modified natural FET (so ovulated with a trigger shot). I'm taking 2 x 400mg Cyclogest pessaries daily and I have no idea whether this will stop my period from arriving until I stop taking them. I had moderate period cramps yesterday, which disappeared last night. I believe this may be my body trying to have a period rather than implantation cramping, but I just don't know whether I can even expect my period to turn up before I stop taking the progersteron pessaries.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

I’ve had 5 transfers and on the 3 that failed I got my period before OTD. I think it does differ by person though. Good luck.

In my experience the pessaries do stop your period. When I had a bfn, my period only came 3 days after I stopped the progesterone

I was on 3 x 400mg Cyclogest daily and got cramps and spotting a couple of days before period was due. Did a test, it was negative. Stopped progesterone and period arrived properly two days later.

I don't think cramps at this stage mean anything. I got a positive test on my last transfer and had cramps in the days leading up and after. So don't count yourself out yet! Good luck.

Thanks for your responses! It's really helpful to hear other people's experiences.

@Vegasdreaming27 thanks! What about your other 2 transfers where you didn't start your period before your OTD, were they successful? Also, how many days before your OTD did you usually get your period?

@countrypunk thanks for the luck, I really need it. I know there's a chance that this transfer could still work, but this is about the time I'd normally get my period (roughly 11 days after ovulation). I've felt implantation cramping before and that was much milder than what I had yesterday. I really hope I'm wrong and this this transfer has actually worked, but I've been convinced I've been pregnant with other transfers and have been sorely disappointed when I've gotten BFNs. Can I ask how many days after your successful transfer you started getting cramps on your successful transfer?

@CentaurChiron Of course - I had cramps from about 4dp5dt all the way through until about 5/6 weeks pregnant. I had a cramp early on that was so strong it woke me up in the night, and I think that was implantation. It was very odd!

For full disclosure, I'm 9 weeks now and the embryo is developing very slowly, so I'm probably going to miscarry. I don't think this bears any relevance to the early cramping though and I'm not in any way saying this is going to happen to you - I've been unlucky. Just wanted you to have the full picture. It's such an anxious time and we all understand how you're feeling. I really hope you get your BFP!

@CentaurChiron yes my other 2 transfers were successful. From memory my period came 2 to 3 days before otd on my failed cycles.

Lauralozzle · 06/03/2023 16:21

I had a fresh transfer in Jan. I started spotting from 7dp5dt. Got progressively heavier but was dark brown. Period came full flow (for several days) once I stopped progesterone pessaries

CentaurChiron · 06/03/2023 16:26

@countrypunk I'm so sorry to hear that, I really hope you defy the odds. It must be a very anxious time for you indeed. Wishing for the very best outcome for you.
