Hi

Does anyone have experience of the NHS IVF service in Glasgow and specifically how long it took from their first consultation to start of treatment cycle?

We are on the waiting list for NHS funded IVF via NHSGGC Assisted Conception Service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. We have had two semen analyses (one private, one NHS) and I have had an antral follicle count and AMH privately. We had a private consultation after these results (via GCRM) which diagnosed MFI and recommended ICSI.

We were referred in October and have a consultant appointment in April but are unsure whether we should just go for the self funded option instead, as I'm in my late thirties and concerned about success rates declining. Apparently there's a 3 month wait for start of cycles in the Glasgow Royal self funded service just now, so am a bit concerned it will be ages before we start if going via NHS route. Equally, as things are in train with NHS, would rather not pay thousands of pounds if don't have to!

When I rang the NHS waiting list coordinator and was given the April appointment, I asked about rough timescales for starting treatment, she said something about a six months target but it depends when the doctor decided when the clock had started - which was all a bit confusing.

Would be grateful if anyone has any recent experience of their timescales between referral - consultant appointment - starting treatment.

Thanks

Aww what a shame just saw the message there. I was told to call the number attached on day 1 .

The top number for starting the process and after contents etc and bloods 1st day of next period is the number ending 8545 which is the nurses line and opened even at weekends. Good luck xx

Hello! Just thought I’d post a wee update re timescales. I was put on waiting list Oct 2023 and got my first appt through for start of March so looks like that’ll be me at top of waiting list. Roughly about 5 months from being put on list to pre-screening appt😊

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone had any more recent experience with GRI waiting lists?

Thanks in advance.

Currently under NHS cycle at GRI, referred in November 2023, first T/C consultation in April 2024, waiting list for Hyscopy(6 months) completed in November 2024, next T/C was Feb 2025 and put on waiting list for IVF (6 months), nurse led clinic appointment July 2025, subsequent appointments for screening bloods etc and again end of September, told to call 1st day next period (October), consenting and further nurse appointment approx 4 weeks and then have just had egg retrieval on Friday (yesterday) and for fresh transfer on wednesday. 8 eggs retrieved but only 3 fertilised. Praying for blastos on Wednesday morning
