I spent a lot of my time on these forums during my fertility journey. Promised myself that if we were ever successful that I would share my story to give others hope.

I am now 39. We were trying to conceive for 7 years. (I have one fallopian tube from an ectopic pregancy) After 2 years of trying to concieve and at the age of 33 we were referred to a fertility clinic where we had our 1st round of ICSI.

We produced 3 5 day blasts. The first transfer resulted in a 15 week miscarriage (cause unknown) the 2nd was a missed miscarriage and the third a chemical pregnancy.

Following the miscarriages we decided to have a break from fertility treatments.

We were referred for further tests relating to the miscarriages and the Consultant recommended before we try again that we go see a nutritionist (privately funded) for more tests, we tried a strict diet provided by the nutritionist and vitamin supplements. Then we had our second cycle of ICSI which resulted in us getting 6 5 day blasts. We didnt carry on with the strict diet as it was too grueling but we continued with the supplements for the first transfer.

The first transfer was a BFN, the next transfer we put 2 back which ended as a chemical pregnancy, the next transfer was a BFN. I decided I couldn't face having another 2 separate transfers with the 2 remaining embryos and decided to put them both in. This was to be our final attempt. Prior to this, the Consultant recommended I have an endometrial scratch (there is little evidence that support these scratches work but in my case I believe it did help) and they also added blood thinners to my treatment plan and double progesterone - a shot of progesterone in the morning and pessaries in the evening.

We got a BFP! I was 38 by this point. I had a large bleed just before my 6 week scan was due. I was convinced I was miscarrying again. On the scan it showed 2 heartbeats! And the bleed had been further down in the womb. We couldnt believe we were having twins!
The pregnancy was relatively smooth by our standards until around 22 weeks, I was having extra checks with the preterm Consultant (due to the late miscarriage) and at 22 weeks a scan revealed my cervix had significantly shortened, one of the bag of waters was entering the neck of my cervix, therefore I had to have an emergency stitch put in to hold the pregnancy. My cervix couldnt cope with the weight of the pregnancy. This was successful. After everything I still couldnt believe we would have these babies. We didnt buy anything until 30 plus weeks and I didnt dare do very much for fear of losing the pregancy. As the weeks passed by we started to believe this actually may happen for us.

At 35 weeks plus 5 days my waters broke and I gave birth naturally to our 2 beautiful twin girls who are now 10 weeks old and I still cant believe they're ours.

Dont give up when things seem like they're never going to happen, we are proof that the universe likes a stubborn heart and miracles can happen.

This is such a beautiful story. It gave me shivers and so much hope. I’m currently having excruciating period pain which I have every month. So feeling particularly low. After three years TTC we have just had an IVF cycle that ended in miscarriage over Christmas and are about to start our second cycle.

Sending so much love to you and your twin girls.
Thanks for giving so much strength and hope. It helps to hear this after all the pain, there might just be a silver lining x x x
