Weight loss for IVF 2021/2022

WeightlossKin · 22/11/2021 20:24

I need to lose three stone to qualify for IVF. I've got one to lose for my referral and two more after that for treatment.
Creating this for myself and for others who might want to buddy up!

@WeightlossKin I'm definitely feeling a weight has been lifted, so it's obviously the right thing!

A spa day sounds wonderful, go for it! It could be exactly what you need to unwind and find some peace. Don't be afraid to do anything alone, I'm a big fan of going out and about on my own. If people give me looks I normally pull a face at them 😂 you could try just a treatment to see if that helps rather than doing a full day on your own if you don't feel comfortable with it?

That's given me loads of ideas! The bacon wrapped chicken and veg is such a good shout! Plus jacket potatoes, I love them but rarely cook them at home but that'll be ideal for when I'm eating alone on an evening. Thank you for the ideas!

WeightlossKin · 25/04/2022 09:23

@Lakyta1717 I'm definitely going to go for the spa day 😊half day with two treatments to take up the time and then I'll spend the rest of the month grumpy about money 😂 if we're not going to put ourselves first now when we need it the most, when will we?
I hope you manage to get a good food plan on place for the days ahead, it's half the battle I think. For me it's the snacks I don't plan but eat anyway causing a problem!
Happy Monday everyone 😊

Had H.S.G this morning. Got there, had to change into a gown and dressing gown. Had a bit of trouble with speculum, needed a different one, but to be honest that was very reminiscent of smear test. I always find speculums painful so this was no different.

I didn't feel the catheter go in, felt the dye though. At first it was like a mild period cramp, as it went on it got stronger and stronger. I definitely felt it, it was definitely uncomfortable and at the end I did say ouch but that was when they were just finishing. I think if it had been that level of pain right at the end throughout, it would have been much worse.

Overall though, not that bad, I've had period cramps much more uncomfortable. Nurse asked me if I know when I ovulate and to get busy lol. She didn't confirm the results properly but she basically said it looks fine.

Thats the last of the tests!

On another note, I'm having to switch back to SW from SF because the constipation is real and I suffer from haemorrhoids. I've been bloated all week but my weight is up, even though I've ate less this week than I did last week!

WeightlossKin · 28/04/2022 17:29

Hooray for all your tests being done @Lauralozzle and that you tackled the HSG. Thank you for sharing your experience. It's really helpful in case any of us have to face it going forward! Very positive that it seems like all was well. They recommend getting it on after don't they? Lots of people seem to fall pregnant after one 🤞🤞that would be nice!
Sorry that SF isn't working for you. Hopefully you get back to SW and find it easier than I have. Fingers crossed you don't experience too much cramping afterwards.

I had white bread today 😁 other than avocado or pure oil that's like the worst thing to have on SW isn't it? 🤣 All my syns for the day essentially.

I've been advised I'm not likely to hear anything else fertility wise until September. So. Just gonna try to enjoy life and balance that with 1-2lbs a week, then I'll be at target in theory by then...

@Lauralozzle thank you! How are you going on?

Also, I've downloaded and started using the Lifesum app, and so far it's really useful, but I haven't made it a habit to use it all day long. Has anyone tried it?

Lakyta1717 · 30/04/2022 07:38

@Lauralozzle glad the HSG went well, and that it wasn't too bad. it must be a bit of a relief to have done all the necessary testing now. Sorry to hear about SF, makes sense to switch back to SW if you're going to be more comfortable doing it. No one needs to deal with constipation, that ain't ever fun!
@WeightlossKin white bread?! Don't tell your SW rep 😂 they'll ostracise you haha. I find when I've been doing it a few months, I crave thick white bread so badly. I usually have a day where I just go crazy and eat it for every meal then I'm good for a few more months. Sorry it's going to take so long before you hear anything, but like you said, you can keep going and get to your goal in preparation which is great! When's your spa day now?!
I'm off to weigh in this morning. I did amazing all week and felt so good, then yesterday I had cake at work (we were celebrating me handing in my notice!😱) and my husband made me cheesecake to also celebrate, so who know what the scales will say! I don't mind this week, I'm so happy to have handed in my notice that my results don't matter to me this week. I've bought the ingredients to make an SP cottage pie and going to make sure I do a few SP days this week to mix things up and get back on track again 😊

Lauralozzle · 30/04/2022 11:00

@IsabelHerna I had Lifesum for a while but I much prefer nutracheck

@WeightlossKin they do recommend you get on with it after the H.S.G although I’ve not been in any state. Went for a 5 mile ish walk on Thursday and then in the evening I was in so much pain. Properly bloated, hips were painful, shooting pains down my thighs. Tablets must have worn off. Yesterday I was still in a bit of pain and bloating is unreal. No more pain today but still bloated and very constipated!

@Lakyta1717 good luck for weigh in.

My weigh in was particularly horrible. After the 5lb loss last week I’ve gained 4lbs back. Suspect that is mainly bloat from HSG and constipation. I’ve resorted to buying syrup of figs to see if that helps…. There is no way that it 4lbs of fat.

IsabelHerna · 30/04/2022 23:46

@Lauralozzle haven't tried this one, I will check it out. Is it expensive?

Lakyta1717 · 01/05/2022 09:14

Stayed the same this week. So back on it and already got my meals planned 😊 I'm in such a good head space right now, so I'm hoping that transfers over into my food choices and I see some good losses from now on!

@Lauralozzle there's no way that's fat gain, it's got to be because of constipation and bloating. I'm sure once you're feeling better from that you'll lose all that and more!

WeightlossKin · 01/05/2022 17:11

I've never heard of lifesum so looked it up! It sounds impressive but the free version sounds very restrictive. You'll have to let us know how you get on @IsabelHerna !

I hope the constipation and bloating resolve themselves @Lauralozzle. Can you have some dark chocolate digestives and a black coffee? Genuinely usually helps me. And kiwi fruit. Especially if you can cope with eating the skin (which I cannot!). I think your gain is understandable with the change from a shake/super restrictive diet to a more balanced one. It probably is a lot of water weight. I had almost exactly the same loss and gain when I switched from shakes/IF to SW. Carbohydrate water, digestion slow down and actual food in the system probably does add up to 4lbs! It won't be fat.

@Lakyta1717 I think feeling good and happy, being in a great place mentally is a massive achievement and more than equal to a minus on the scales. That's amazing 🥰 I'm sure that'll make it much easier for you to stick to healthy eating and your meal plan for the week.

I stayed the same this week, I was hoping for a loss but 🤷 it's that white bread 😂 I'm not kidding. I'm sure I'd have lost a pound without it. Also my period started today. So I was never going to win!

OP posts:
IsabelHerna · 01/05/2022 18:54

@WeightlossKin it is very restrictive indeed! I'm using the premium version, what really helps me is the scanning feature but I will start using the nutracheck to compare the two.

Lauralozzle · 06/05/2022 08:27

@IsabelHerna I think there’s a free version, I’m paying for premium version of nutracheck. I think it was £20ish for a year.

@Lakyta1717 at least sts is better than a gain. Fingers crossed that you have had a good week.

@WeightlossKin I hate black coffee, but eating fairly normal has helped get things moving again. Now that seems to be sorted, need to get strict again. Brought some Senna, so I’m going to give SF another go, but might alternate days. OH said I was miserable on it! Haha 😂 the things we do for a bloody weigh in at the fertility clinic!

on a H.S.G. Note, I’ve only got a peak opk today so it’s massively pushed back my ovulation. Not surprising really, I was spotting for a few days, don’t think my body was ready. Good thing is I’m completely over it now! Best get busy to make the most of my flushed tubes. The best thing about this though is the fact that I won’t be on my period for the appointment now! So no period cramp/bloating!

hope everyone is okay

Lakyta1717 · 06/05/2022 19:46

@Lauralozzle very true! I've had quite a good week, so will see what weigh in is like tomorrow morning.

That's good news about not being on your period for your appointment. And I'm glad you're feeling better now! Alternating days sounds like a good plan, that way you hopefully won't get to the same level of being uncomfortable that way. I'd be miserable just doing just SF too 😂 did you feel miserable doing it or just that your OH noticed it more than you did?

WeightlossKin · 07/05/2022 10:44

@IsabelHerna I've never used nutracheck either! I'll be interested to hear which you prefer 😊

@Lauralozzle I'm not surprised you were miserable on SF! I think I've said this before but really low calorie diets can trigger feelings of depression! I hope doing SF on alternating days helps you. That's good news about not being on your period for your appointment! Not long to go now. When is it again?

@Lakyta1717 hope weigh in went well! It's fab you've managed to have another good week 😊

I'm hoping to have lost 1lb when I weigh in tomorrow but trying not to stress about it. Hopefully last day of my period today and maybe several pounds will disappear with it overnight 😁🤞

Lakyta1717 · 07/05/2022 11:04

I lost 1/2lb this week. Happy enough but will keep going and try to lose more this week. I want to try to get some exercise in this week too, I'm feeling really weak since I've not done any weight lifting for so long. Want to try to regain some of my strength over the next few months.

@WeightlossKin hope you get a good loss tomorrow!

Lauralozzle · 07/05/2022 12:40

@Lakyta1717 I didn’t really notice it, but OH said I was quiet and miserable and not my usual slightly weird quirky self! I wouldn’t say I felt miserable, I just had lots of baths to avoid eating haha. I think he thought I was turning into a recluse! We’ll done losing half a lb! It’s going in the right direction! I should probably start weight lifting but I actually hate it. I’m so weak though - no upper body strength at all!

@WeightlossKin i hope doing SF on alternating days helps too! At least it’s getting warmer so more salads In general! my appointment is the 16th May so not long at all. I have one more weigh in!

weigh in today - down 1.5lbs. That puts my bmi at 30.3 (morning weigh in, no clothes, after going to the loo). But, I’m hoping a strict week will help and I’ll weigh out the lightest outfit I own for the appointment lol!

Lakyta1717 · 08/05/2022 08:41

@Lauralozzle isn't it funny how we don't notice it but our OHs do? I think alternating days would be best, you don't want to go into your appointment feeling blocked up (so to speak...) or miserable. If you alternate days, it should help you lose the weight and get your BMI down (you're so close! It's amazing!) in time as well as not making you go crazy or super grumpy from it. 🤞🏻🤞🏻 got everything crossed for you, I know you're gunna smash this!

I love weight training, makes me feel so good about myself. I used to do loads but now I can hardly lift anything, so want to get back into some weighted squats and shoulder work (that's where I've lost most of my strength). So we'll see how it goes! Did my weekly meal plan and shop, so today will be spent prepping my meals for the first half of the week. I've mixed it up and done some SP meals as well some Veggie meals too. Proud that I didn't go to any of my normal go to meals either (like spag Bol etc), so it's mostly new recipes or ones I've not had for a while.

WeightlossKin · 08/05/2022 13:56

🥺 I've gained half a pound. I'm a bit furious about it. I'm about to go on holiday and don't want to worry too much about my weight whilst I'm away but I don't want to be the same weight in two weeks time or even heavier🤦🤦 I'm going to do my best to enjoy my holiday whilst staying on plan I think. 🙄 Every week that I don't lose weight seems to put me like four weeks behind schedule in my head.

Well done on your half a pound @Lakyta1717 ! It's good progress and going in the direction you want it to 😊

You're so close @Lauralozzle ! If you stay on track and don't have any hiccups you'll definitely be where you need to be in time for your appointment!

OP posts:
Lakyta1717 · 08/05/2022 16:13

@WeightlossKin sorry to hear that. Don't beat yourself up, there could so many reasons why it happened. Go on your holiday, enjoy every second of it and just make better choices food wise. Don't deprive yourself, but don't splurge either. You deserve to have a good holiday and enjoy yourself!

Lauralozzle · 08/05/2022 17:52

@Lakyta1717 it is funny how we don’t notice our moods but our OHs do! Your plan sounds good! Especially with a few SP days in there!

@WeightlossKin sorry you have gained, though it’s only a small amount, you’ll get that off in no time! Enjoy your holiday and get back on it when you’re back. Just make sensible choices, with the odd holiday treat!

Hedgehugs · 08/05/2022 23:41

Have just caught up on the messages since my first post a while ago, it was only a little one so hello again. Since I last wrote, I’ve been working hard at losing weight. Almost 1 stone down, and just going to keep plodding on with it. My husband had SA as per drs request, we went back for the results and it seems the fertility clinic has lost his sample. I can’t believe it. I’m going to call them tomorrow and get some more info like erm… Where is it?! 😳 but looks like he will have to do it again. My cycles are usually really irregular have been 4 months and last one was 6months but after I last went to see the dr I got one, and 43 days later I have another! It must be down to the changes I have made in diet and exercise. Dr has set me up for 21day bloods but just got to sit tight this cycle and try and get the timing right to do the blood test on my next cycle. She wants to see me again after and will discuss next steps but she mentioned clomid. So nice to feel a little less lonely reading through comments of people on similar journeys. X

IsabelHerna · 09/05/2022 14:13

@WeightlossKin I tried to use the app, but I seem to have some glitches...it doesn't seem to let me go further than create a profile. Also, I would say that you need to enjoy your vacation and not to worry about anything else, it is a time to let your body and mind relax. You deserve this.

Lauralozzle · 09/05/2022 18:45

@Hedgehugs Firstly, we’ll done on your weight loss!!! Nearly a stone down is fantastic!

Secondly, I can’t believe they’ve lost your OH sample! If they can’t find it, I’d complain.

It sounds like you’ve got a plan and are moving forward with talk about clomid and day 21 bloods. It’s really good your weight loss has helped your cycles too.

Nothing to report here, like an idiot I’m weighing in every morning until this bloody referral is done to see how far away I am. I was half a lb lighter this morning. Really need that to be 4.5lbs lighter though!

I’ve decided, on Monday, after the referral, I’ll be bloody starving and I’ll be having a KFC on the way home!!!

Lauralozzle · 14/05/2022 09:06

Weigh in, I’m up half a lb. This is infuriating, two days ago I was 3lbs lighter.

Im not going to make it under 30 by Monday, so no idea what will happen at my appointment. I don’t know what happens if you’ve had all the tests but you’re just too fat! will they book to see me again after a couple more months, or will they sorry can’t do anything now and have to have a referral all over again? This is so hard, the switching up SF hasn’t worked. I’ve felt better, digestion wise, but my weight fluctuates so much.

Today and tomorrow will be very strict, but, I’m just feeling so frustrated with myself. Why can’t I stick to it, I really want the IVF referral but I’m an emotional eater and it’s ruining everything!

sorry for the pity party!

WeightlossKin · 14/05/2022 17:31

Hi @Lauralozzle ! I'm currently still on holiday but didn't want to not reply.
My understanding is in my CCG it you're not at the right weight for your appointment they ask you to come back in four months? Is there any way you can delay your appointment by a week or two?
I do find that just having liquids the day before weighing in helps (I have a protein shake for breakfast and homemade soup or cup soup for dinner and nothing else!) And then nothing to drink 4 hours before the appointment. Also no carbs for the week before. Not sure this is the healthiest advice but it's my 'I have a weigh in appointment' method!
Emotionally eating is so hard to break. I don't know what the answer is but I agree it's very hard x
