Weight loss for IVF 2021/2022

I need to lose three stone to qualify for IVF. I've got one to lose for my referral and two more after that for treatment.
Creating this for myself and for others who might want to buddy up!

@Small1607 I'm so sorry for your loss. It's totally understandable that you've needed to take time to get back in the right frame of mind. ❤️

Everyone struggles to lose weight at some point, but we're all in the same boat and we're all just taking it one day at a time. Think how well You've already done, 24lb is amazing! We're a supportive bunch here, so welcome to the group!

@WeightlossKin well done for losing 3lb. And I think it sounds great that you've realised you need to switch things up for your mental health. Taking a step back and seeing what you need to do can be difficult, buts it great you've managed to do that. Be kind to yourself, you're doing amazing ❤️

ScattyNat83 · 28/03/2022 07:52

Thank you all. I feel a bit more motivated this week, maybe because it's the last day of term and I have 17 days off to try and sort myself out! I managed somehow to lose 3lbs this week which dropped me in to a different stone bracket, so think that helped my mood. Going to make a proper meal plan for this week and hopefully that will help me. Good luck to every body trying to lose weight this week. :)

louloulemons · 28/03/2022 16:41

I am very late but please can I join you? I’m losing weight for round 3! Managed to get my weight low enough for the first 2 rounds and then stupidly stupidly ate my way through the last year as a way of coping with everything. Our new consultant has told me to give up alcohol completely so hoping that will help!

WeightlossKin · 28/03/2022 16:48

@ScattyNat83 I'm so sorry for your loss. It's shocking how much we can live through. I'm glad you're feeling more motivated this week 💪❤️ and 3lbs is fantastic, well done!

@louloulemons you're more than welcome to join. I'm not sure how people maintain their weight loss, especially when going through something so difficult when ploughing bodies with hormones that can cause excess hunger and weight gain 🤦 but you've done it once and you can absolutely get back there! I'm also sorry you're having to do round 3 🙁 I hope giving up alcohol does the trick for you 🤞🤞

Thanks @Lakyta1717! I think it's so hard learning to be kind to ourselves. You know the saying "treat others how you'd like to be treated"? I think we need it to be "treat yourself as well as you treat others"! I'd never be so mean to anyone else. I hope you're having a good start to the week!

Hope everyone is having a good week 💪❤️

WeightlossKin · 04/04/2022 09:28

Just for my own benefit really, just reporting I've gained a pound this week 🤦 not surprised but nevermind!

OP posts:
Lakyta1717 · 04/04/2022 13:40

@WeightlossKin if it's any consolation, I stayed the same this week. So no loss here either!

It's the holidays now and I'm gunna use this time to recalibrate. I'm aiming to lose at least 7lb this month to get me into the next stone bracket, as I think that'll give me a confidence boost. Just need to get my head back in the game and keep going.

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

Lauralozzle · 04/04/2022 14:37

I just can’t get my head in the game.

Just did my 2:30 pm clothed weigh in and I’m about 2lbs up. Totally expected I’ve been terrible this week!

I need to focus. Changing my official weigh in to Friday but still need these Monday afternoon weigh ins cause of the appointment.

I just want the weather to improve! I’m much more likely to get out and exercise when the weather is nice! Also need to stop eating crap! My period is over now, so can’t really use that as crap food excuse!

It doesn’t help that I’ve used most of my syns today on scrambled eggs on toast! Seeded sourdough and butter and boom 💥 tasted good though… at least the eggs are free!

WeightlossKin · 04/04/2022 14:51

@Lakyta1717 sorry you stayed the same! 7lbs is a sensible target, but I think I'd struggle to lose more than 4lb in a month. The next stone bracket is such a good motivator so hopefully that helps!

It's so so hard. I'm finding it really difficult to not just throw a wobbly and eat loads of chocolate tbh.

@Lauralozzle you're always going to weigh more later on in the day and fully clothed. I've genuinely weighed all throughout the day because I've got some sort of addiction to it but clothes genuinely add 1-2lbs depending what you're wearing! Fingers crossed now that your period is over that helps and the weather improves for us all 🤞

Yesterday I ate a cupcake, a biscuit, two chocolates, pretzels 😳 another biscuit. Ontop of my normal food which was all healthy but I seem to have had a massive wobble. So hard to get back on it today.

How have people gotten on this week?

OP posts:
IsabelHerna · 18/04/2022 13:01

Ladies, how are you?

@WeightlossKin I managed to lose 4 pounds before and after my transfer and I got a bfp last week!! I have an appointment with obgyn next week, to ask about the nutrition plan because at the IVF clinic, my nurse told me to care about how much weight to gain if I got a positive.

Also, my sister started baking vegan, sugar-free deserts for me without wheat flour or gluten, to help me out. I think they actually helped a lot! Because they are richer in flavour, I just grab a few bites when I get snacky.

Now I am thinking that maybe I can lose a couple of pounds until I start the pregnancy gaining weight, but we'll see.

How is everyone going? How are your ivf journeys going on?

WeightlossKin · 18/04/2022 16:38

That's amazing, congratulations @IsabelHerna! I'm so glad IVF has worked for you. I'm not sure if it's disheartening to know you're still being told to worry about your weight now you're pregnant 🤦 I get it but frustrating to hear. That sounds very lovely of your sister, what a gem!
I gained weight this week which I'm hoping is down to ovulation as I can't think why I've gained.
I think most people were having to lose weight before being able to progress any further with IVF, and that's certainly my story.
I finally got my BMI to 34 (below 35) and had my weigh in at my GP who has sent off my fertility referral and now I have 2-2.5 stone to lose whilst I wait for whatever happens to me next. I've been referred to the hospital fertility clinic, so might have lots more testing, might just get told we need IVF and to go away until we've lost the weight. I could be waiting a few weeks or a few months for my initial appointment so I just need to keep going in the mean time.

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 20/04/2022 18:03

@IsabelHerna congrats on the BFP!! 🎉

@WeightlossKin glad you got your referral sorted. I was also referred to the hospital fertility clinic and I received the letter for the appointment in about a month.

I’ve made things harder for myself. I weighed in on Saturday, up half a stone. Fertility appointment to go over tests is 16th May and it has to be below 30. So, I’ve started slimfast style diet with SW inspired dinner as my 600 calorie meal. I’ve lost two pounds since Saturday. A stone isn’t really doable in 4 weeks but I’m going to bloody try!!!

Finally got my H.S.G booked, next Thursday. I’m bricking it!

hope everyone is ok!

WeightlossKin · 20/04/2022 19:05

Oh @Lauralozzle that's great! How long did it take from referral to get your letter if you don't me asking? Being in this 'I have no idea how long I'll be waiting' bubble is doing my head in already 😂

A stone is quite ambitious in 4 weeks but if you do low carb as well I'm sure you'll get most of the way there! You've got this and there's such a great incentive to stick with it! I can't believe your BMI has to be below 30 just to go over the tests, that seems quite harsh? I thought it just needed to be below 30 before you're allowed to start treatment! Getting your HSG booked in and done will be a 'nice' thing to tick off your list, I'm sure it won't be as bad as you're expecting.

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 20/04/2022 20:43

@WeightlossKin to be honest, I’m never going to hit a stone. I want my bmi comfortably enough below 30 that it gets in just under 30, at 2:30pm on my first day of my period. Typical afternoon appointment that just so happens to be scheduled for the start of my next period! I’m seriously out of luck!

my bmi needed to be under 30 when I was referred but I was about 7 lbs lighter in January and they measured me in my trainers. No such luck at the hospital- trainers off!

fertility referral was finally done mid Jan. letter came through mid February, fir appointment at fertility clinic mid March. From March to now, I’ve had extra tests - AMH, external/internal ultrasound and my H.S.G next week. All tests need to be done by May appointment.

been told likely IVF due to length of time trying, so I need the bmi to play ball!

had bloods etc done by doctor before referral which took best part of six months.

WeightlossKin · 21/04/2022 14:22

It's so tricky isn't it? Having to weigh in mid afternoon is so unfair, and some people can gain several pounds on their period, they should take that into account but they don't do they. I hope it works out and will cross everything that you get where you need to be that day. Can you poof up your hair to make yourself that tiny bit taller on the day?! 😂 Tell them you've grown!
Thank you for sharing the timings, that's really helpful to know. And really quite quick! I wonder if mine will be similar. I'm expecting to to be a few months before I hear anything.
It's such a strict process. It baffles me.

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 21/04/2022 16:55

@WeightlossKin it is such a strict process! I wish they would take the fact I’ll be on my period and mid afternoon when they weigh me but I’ve got to assume they won’t.

yes, once the referral went it has been pretty quick. Hopefully come our May appointment we’ll have some answers and at least know next steps.

on a positive note, I’m down 3.5 lbs from Saturday. Being strict is working.

WeightlossKin · 22/04/2022 09:38

@Lauralozzle it's so strange that they're meant to be experts about hormones and fertility etc but don't care to acknowledge the weight fluctuations caused by those things. If I'm honest I'm still annoyed you can't strip off to weigh in 😂 I obviously get why but feel they should take a standard 1.5lbs off for any clothes? The sad thing is there's no way around it and we can't argue about it and just have to crack on and lose the weight.
3.5lbs down already is fantastic. Well done! Do you think what you're doing is maintainable until your appointment?

I've got a holiday in a few weeks and I know I'll gain several pounds whilst living on pastries 😂 so need to be really on plan until then! I'm really struggling to get back into a slimming world plan though. 🙁

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 22/04/2022 10:00

@WeightlossKin I think it’s maintainable until the appointment. I think when I get to 12 stone something, I’ll begin eating a little more normally, not long to go! I couldn’t do Slimfast for a super long period, but if I stick with it until the appointment I think I’ll be fine. I haven’t followed it religiously (birthday meals for husband this week) but I need to keep my head in the game, so to speak, because if I’m not strict with myself I just go off the rails!

it’s my official weigh day tomorrow so hopefully I can record a decent loss as a nice kick start.

I love SlimmingWorld when I stick to it, but I know what you mean about struggling to get back into plan.

Holiday sounds great! Where are you going?

WeightlossKin · 22/04/2022 21:01

That's great @Lauralozzle ! Hopefully it flies by and you can get your appointment out of the way. Will they weigh you again before you start meds or do you not know?
I find it difficult to find a balance between super strict and just eating healthily. I didn't think I was an all or nothing type person but I seem to have to be fully on plan right now as any deviation details me for days or weeks 🙁

I've planned a more slimming world meal plan next week as this week every dinner has been all of my syns for the day 😳 and I've struggled to not have extra syns during the day so I'll be surprised if I don't gain even more on Sunday 🤦 next week will be a better week for me and hopefully I'll have two and a half weeks on plan at least 😂 we're going to Spain! Definitely need a mental break from everything.
I hope you see the loss you want to when you weigh yourself tomorrow!

OP posts:
Lauralozzle · 23/04/2022 09:40

@WeightlossKin they’ll weigh me at my next appointment in May but no idea what will happen then.

I don’t think there’s any meds to give me, unless they give me something for my thyroid and prolactin?

Weigh in today, down 5lbs! Sitting at 13st 2lbs. Need to get into the 12s comfortably but this last week has been pretty good. Don’t expect to see next weeks weigh in being half as good though - I had been properly off track so I imagine a lot of this is just water.

Still, I’m taking it!!

Lakyta1717 · 24/04/2022 07:46

Hey @Lauralozzle and @WeightlossKin

Just been catching up, been away with my family in Wales for the 2 weeks Easter holiday and then back to work has been a bit manic (isn't it always?!).

I'm so glad you've both gotten referred now, that's fab news!
@Lauralozzle I've heard the HSG isn't as bad as people expect, so I hope yours goes perfectly! I'm sure it will 😊 you've done amazing to lose that much, well done! Keep going, your appointment is so soon, just get as close to the weight needed as possible, you got this 💪🏻
@WeightlossKin it took me a bit longer to get back into slimming world properly again this time too. I think when you know it and you've done it, it's hard to just go all gung ho straight away with the plan. But you can do it 😊 so jealous you're going on holiday, I hope you have a fab time when it comes along!
I've now gotten back down to my lowest weight again (have fluctuated so much since Christmas) so am officially 2stone 2lb down. Got a long way to go, but I'm in a much better place mentally right now. I've made some pretty huge decisions about work/career and I now know that from August, I will have more time to focus on me and my health because I'm going to resign from my current job. I have an interview for a part time job on Wednesday because I've decided I need to take a step back from teaching for a while, so don't want to be full time anymore. So here's hoping this positivity sticks around and I get back into working out, eating well and focussing on me and my health goals 🤞🏻🤞🏻

WeightlossKin · 24/04/2022 18:45

@Lauralozzle It might just be water weight but I bet a lot of it isn't. I hope you get into the 12's soon! It makes me feel like I'll make it there at some point as I definitely need to be 12stone 7lbs before IVF. It'ss so easy to say it's too hard when we get off track for a bit so it's amazing you're doing so well. You should be proud of yourself! I'm excited to see how you get on at your next weigh in and your appointment. Any loss is a great step forward and hard earned!

@Lakyta1717 did you have a lovely time away? It sounds like you've made some big decisions! I think health and wellbeing takes a lot of work and energy and it's not always possible to do that and a full time job, especially teaching. It's extra hard in our circumstances. Well done for making a decision that is for your own wellbeing and hopefully lets you focus on yourself a bit more! 2 stone 2 down is fantastic, I bet that feels amazing 😊

I've set out a more sensible food plan for the week ahead. Fingers crossed for a better week! Although I've not gained this week, but I've only lost 1lb of the few I gained after my GP appointment 😳 so gotta work on getting those back off just in time for holiday 😂

OP posts:
Lakyta1717 · 24/04/2022 20:02

@WeightlossKin if had a few rubbish weeks at work before the holidays, so the break away give me time and space to make a decision. I had such a good time seeing friends and family, didn't worry about food, just enjoyed time with them and did zero work whatsoever, I felt so happy and refreshed. First time in a long time I feel at peace, so I know it's the right decision for me.

1lb of it is gone, so just keep going! Now you're doing slimming world, have you considered SP meals? I find they give me much better losses than a normal week. What's on the food plan for this week?

All I've planned so far is lunch tomorrow which is leftover lasagne and veg. Should probably work out my dinners for the next few days while hubby's working away...

WeightlossKin · 24/04/2022 20:32

That sounds like a much needed break for you @Lakyta1717 . It's so good to have lovely memories in amongst all the other stuff. I always think if you feel a weight is lifted as soon as you've made a decision then it's definitely the right one for you.

I'm trying to spend time doing more self care and treating myself kindly and finding some peace. There's so much turmoil at this stage of my life I need to find some balance. I want to book a spa afternoon but have no one to go with (everyone is either pregnant or won't leave their young babies). I never do anything like that on my own but I wonder if it's just what I need really? Nervous already but I'm sure it'll be good for me.

My lunches are usually carb free but I've been carb crazy lately so some SP days should be what I aim for! 😊 Well done having lunch tomorrow planned. I find it much harder if my husband is away as I'm more likely to snack than cook.
I've got salads with various proteins (salmon, egg, tuna) for lunches this week. Dinners are: jacket potato and beans, chicken wrapped in bacon with veg and gravy, mushroom risotto, spicy chicken baked wraps, SW cooked 'breakfast'. In case that gives you any ideas!
