Hello.. Just that really. When having IVF - What day in your cycle did you have your egg retrieval/collection? Thanks in advance

Usually around when I would naturally ovulate so cycle day 12/13/14 (I did 5 rounds of IVF) but I did short protocol IVF and natural modified IVF

DoctorBambino · 24/05/2021 20:14

Cd14 for me. I was on short protocol too.

@andivfmakes3 Gosh that is a lot of rounds of IVF. That must have been tough. I've had 6 IUIs but now starting IVF - They said initially the egg collection day will be day 14 (almost as if it was certain) but now I've found it can be any day between 12-14 or thereabouts so just wanted to see what cycle day it was for others.

@DoctorBambino thanks for your response. I think mine is the short protocol as well as it is around 2 weeks.

1s - CD12 (started FSH on CD3)
2nd - CD13 (started FSH on CD2)
Both short protocols.

Once on day 11, once day 14 and once day 17! It will just depend on how fast you respond to the meds. I was on different medications for my cycles despite and some obviously worked faster on me than others.

VenusStarr · 25/05/2021 06:34

Cd13, short protocol. There was talk of an earlier collection at cd10 but they pushed me a bit longer over the weekend.

2mumlife · 25/05/2021 07:59

CD11 on long protocol

IslandStars · 25/05/2021 09:06

I’ve done 3 rounds of mild / short protocol and all were day 12.

Bells3032 · 25/05/2021 10:32

first two rounds of short both on day 15. this round seems like it's gonna be a bit longer

LetMeIn321 · 25/05/2021 20:54

Thank you for all of your replies. It really does vary then doesn't it. I wasn't sure what to expect and imagined the process would be a fair bit longer. My egg retrieval may be some time next week. I'm really quite nervous about it. Don't like the thought of being sedated or put the sleep...!

Gosh day 17..! Yes I suppose it is really about how you respond to the meds. I've only been on the first lot of injections for the last 3 days. I've had a horrible headache since starting them.

whatcangowrong · 25/05/2021 21:12

10, short protocol, I responded fast. The sedative they give you is lovely, like a surreal dream :-)

LetMeIn321 · 26/05/2021 20:51

@whatcangowrong that is fast isn't it..! It all feels a bit surreal. I've had 6 IUIs and was pregnant twice but miscarried both times. Now we're doing IVF, it feels quite surreal to think I'll be having an egg retrieval over the next few days. I have the day 6 scan tomorrow so might find out more then. 10 days is really quick isn't it.
I'm so nervous about the retrieval. I'm glad it'll be like a nice sleep.

@LetMeIn321 I’ve been sedated before. It’s totally fine. You’ll be all relaxed and you’ll wake up and it’s all done! Perfect!

LetMeIn321 · 28/05/2021 07:40

@Ofpalestsilver I'm glad. I get so nervous with things like this. We shall see how it goes..!

CD17 for me ( I naturally ovulate around day 12) but I had to stim for a few more days longer to give my folllies extra time to grow - which worked !) x

LetMeIn321 · 28/05/2021 20:32

@strawberrysummer19 I did wonder about that, if it's likely to happen around when you would usually ovulate. Then started to worry that I could ovulate naturally and lose all the eggs..! I booked days 14/15/16/17 off work just in case it falls on one of those days! Not realising it could potentially happen before!

OP posts:
strawberrysummer19 · 28/05/2021 21:50

@LetMeIn321 I was on meds that stopped ovulation, given around day 6 along with the stims so they basically control ovulation so that doesn't happen, regular scans also xx

LetMeIn321 · 28/05/2021 23:31

@strawberrysummer19 oh I was given a second medication to inject from day 6 but they didn't say what it was for. They don't seem to tell us anything at this clinic. The last one I was at would explain things along the way but it really doesn't happen at this one. That's probably what it is for then...!

OP posts:
strawberrysummer19 · 29/05/2021 07:51

@LetMeIn321 what's the name of it? Mine was fyremadel if it helps. I found my clinic gave me info as I went along. Which I just adjusted my expectations ( I like to know the ins and outs of it all!) they did explain at the consultation but that was 5 months before us actual starting so you do forget, I have found here a godsend.

I booked one day off guessing when EC would be ( I booked off CD 16 ) and I ended up being one day out! All I did was message work and say I needed to swap the leave. I figured it was easier to ask for a leave swap as I was already having a day off that week. But that's because my job are fairly flexible and as long as the works done kind a thing, although it's a temp job and I'm starting my new job next week! But that's another stress that I'll worry about as the time comes, something I've learned to do in this IVF malarkey!!
X

@VenusStarr Can I ask, did they do this to give the eggs extra time to mature? I had a scan yesterday on cycle day 8, and it looks like only 2 are maturing and possibly a third, and he's talking about retrieving those couple this week. Rather than extending the meds for longer to try and mature the other eggs which are a little slow in developing at the moment. He said he's worried he'll traumatise the ovary by doing this so that's why he's looking at just retrieving the mature ones now.
OP posts:
LetMeIn321 · 30/05/2021 08:11

@strawberrysummer19 So I'm on bemfola and the one I've started on day 6 is Certrotide.
I've been told it could be Wednesday they do the collection now but told me not to quote him in case it's later. He's looking at just retrieving the 2 eggs that have matured already as the others are taking a little longer. I'm only on day 9 at the moment so I thought they'd give the eggs a bit more of a chance but I don't think they are.
