Late ovulation... day 17-18 of 28 day cycle

Hi everyone!

Hubby and I have been TTC for over a year. I'm 29 and have regular 27-28 day cycles. I've been tracking and tend to ovulate around day 16-18 each month. I also have 3 days of spotting before my period arrives which leaves me with a 9 day luteal phase before I get some spotting.

I don't know what to do. I am so desperate for a child and to be a mum. I have tried B vitamins, acupuncture, Agnus castus... nothing is working.

Is pregnant impossible? Sad

I could have written this myself. I get a positive on day 16 so I think I ovulate around day 17 and have a 28 day cycle (11 day luteal phase). Clomid didn’t really make much difference. I usually spot from day 23 until I come on. Something I will discuss with my consultant on Wednesday. Probably nothing to worry about - have you had all your tests? X

Hello, a luteal phase defect victim here. I have tried everything to lengthen my luteal phase, B vitamin complex, food, acupuncture etc nothing worked. 6 months on Letrozole no changes. I have asked my consultant for progesterone supporties but my body didn't absorb it well so that didn't work either. I have spoken to a different consultant since and he said he would suggest a HCG injection to support the luteal phase.
Many doctors don't take LPD seriously as not to many studies have been done on this topic but I'm convinced this is my problem. Im speaking to my consultant tomorrow so will mention the injections let's see what he says. X

Thank you so much for sharing your experience ladies! I totally agree - they don't seem to take LPD seriously. Every time I mention it to my GP I get the sense she thinks I don't know what I'm talking about....

I am getting the 21 day blood test this month but I read online that it's only useful if you ovulate on day 14 whereas I am ovulating too late!

Did you both get referred to a fertility clinic and have blood tests?

I bought progesterone cream but I'm scared that will mess with things more so I'm not going to use it.

It’s true that you should have the the progesterone test 7 days after you ovulate. One month I had the test on day 21 and it showed a result of above 34 which I wasn’t expecting. I think if your cycles are regular you should just have the test done on day 21.

I’ve had all the tests now - taken nearly a year to get from first GP appointment last August to now. I have no choice but to go private as there are no funded cycles where I live. I’ll let you know what the consultant says about spotting luteal phase defect. The other 2 consultants I’ve spoken to didn’t seem to think it was significant. This months spotting has been better than other months - due on Wednesday. Wishful thinking I could be pregnant before IVF consultation x

@JandL2020 I will keep everything crossed for you!

I am glad you are getting the ball finally rolling with everything after all this time. It's a long process but hopefully we get there and we get to be mummas soon x

Hi ladies

Do you mind me asking how you are getting on with your investigations into this?
