GREAT to see positive donor conception threads - should they be in conception/own category not infertility?

Just a thought, be interested to see what others think. I know donor conception only comes about as the result of infertility, but to me, making the decision to go for donor conception (in my case, donor eggs) is a positive step to having the family I so long for.

To give some background, I'm 40, had an ectopic pregnancy 2 years ago, then found out that I'm peri-menopausal, so regular IVF not an option. Had a donor lined up at the end of last year, fell through at the last minute as she is a cystic fibrosis gene carrier (awful news for her and very hard for us).

Have picked ourselves up, we have another donor in the pipeline (and I'm keeping everything I have crossed), hoping to cycle in a couple of months.

Anyway. There have been several DE threads in infertility that have been so positive and helped enormously. I feel like I have options and a very real chance to be a mother, but it's a bit depressing to have to look in the infertility section to find other threads/people going through this too!

So, was just thinking - should donor conception have its own section, like adoption? Could this possibly raise the profile of gamete donors, and encourage more people to donate? What do you reckon?

Well, in some cases (single women, lesbian couples) donor conception may be necessary without being related to infertility - so that's possibly another reason to recognise it as a distinct topic?

That's a great point - and with friends in those categories doing this too, one I should have thought of...
