Iv'e ovulated i think for 2nd cycle in a row despite being told impossible with FSH of 20

The nurse at the infertility clinic says that there is no way i will be ovulating with an FSH of 20. I received this result last week after a day 3 FSH test. I know that i definately ovulated 3 cycles ago as a day 28 test confirmed it. The last 2 cycles i have used a Clearblue digital ovulation test. Last cycle it seems i ovulaed on days 13/14 and this cycle days 11/12. Despite being told i'm menopausal (i'm 38) it seems that i'm still ovulating. Clinic were going to start me with Clomid before i got this awful FSH of 20.

Hello, sorry to here about your results. Is it worth getting a second opinion at another FC? To be honest the only way to know for sure if/when you ovulate is to track your BBT. The rise in temp shows ov did happen, whereas ov tests just show when you might ov.

What have the clinic suggested now?. I would seek a second opinion.

Your FSH was indeed tested but did they look at your LH level as well?. If not they should have done.

They should also be seeing you every month to check whether ovulation has occurred or otherwise. Using OPKs in such circs is not ideal at all as these can mislead in their own ways also. All the OPK showed was a rise in LH and such a rise is not always immediately followed by ovulation. Also you can have more that one rise in LH every month.

BBT tracking is not worth doing either, the best way forward is for them to give you blood tests every month to check your hormone levels properly. This would give you and they a far more accurate picture than either BBT (beset with problems also) or usage of OPKs.

I know you are waiting to start clomid but tbh I would just Dtd around when you think you are ovulating and hope. I was told I had low ovarian reserve and had a 1 % chance and I still ovulated ( opk, ewcm etc) so we just timed sex each month and after a few mc got a good egg. High fsh doesn't mean you are not ovulating.
You post a lot and are clearly v stressed. But just hope there is one good egg left ( and make lifestyle changes to help as I think a few of us have suggested on other posts here and in menopause) and go for it when you ovulate. Whilst also trying whatever else your Dr say. Drs told me to go away or try donor eggs ( and to be fair that was my fallback plan - but unlike you I didn't have 2 dc already)
Drs are not always right if you think your ovulating have sex - it's a low chance but you may get your 2014 dream come true. It's a horrid diagnosis but if you have signs of ovulation I'd trust your body not drs.

Thanks girls. I know i am ovulating, at least some cycles i am. I did about 3 cycles ago as it was confirmed after a cycle day 28 blood test. Progesterone was at a satisfactory level. Myself and hubby have sex around 2 or 3 times aweek, although we haven't the past week or so as since i got that menopause diagnosis iv'e felt so fed up. I did notice some EWCM for a couple of days about a week ago and we did have sex. The clinic tested my FSH, LH and estradiol levels on day 3 of this cycle and my levels in all were high. When i spoke to my doctor yesterday he told me not to worry too much about numbers, that they don't always mean anything! He also said that OPKs are crap, in those exact words!! The clinic also told me OPKs are unreliable. Iv'e been told to take a double dose of Clomid at start of my next cycle. As all my levels were high it suggests my ovaries need to be pushed as hard a spossible.

Clomid though can increase LH levels markedly (its main job is to make the ovaries work harder) and I think the comments made to you re "not to worry too much about numbers, that they don't always mean anything!" is frankly spoken from sheer ignorance. They are right about the OPKs though.

You should be monitored monthly if on clomid preferably with both blood tests and ultrasounds to see if any egg is actually leaving the ovary. No monitoring is completely unacceptable and should not be tolerated at all.

I do not think this clinic knows what they are really doing tbh.

The whole reason I can't cycle again is that the ivf drugs are FSH, so my high levels mean I won't respond, that's why I'm confused as to them offering fertility drugs, to the best of my knowledge high FSH means all fertility drugs are a no go

Thank you Lauren, that would be great if you would ask. It doesn't seem at all right to me as at first the consultant told me fertility drugs would only be used with an FSH below 15 xx

AttillaThe Meercat. I am very confused! The doctor is telling me one thing and the clinic another! The clinic have said they will scan me on cycle days 10/12 after starting the Clomid and to have a day 21 blood test to check for ovulation. I don't think they know what they are doing either. For months they told me they suspected i had PCOS even through i mentioned early menopause to them. Now they are telling me it is menopause!! Why they have prescribed Clomid with that diagnosis is beyond me as it clearly won't work.

Course, I'm there at 2.55 seeing my ivf consultant, I will ask would they prescribe me clomid or does it not work with high FSH x
