I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

Can someone explain how iui works, what days you have to go to hospital, take drugs etc? We have to have it following dh cancer treatment so think I am fine and ovulating ok...would really appreciate some guidance, looks like a long wait to see docs (and prob be told well have to go private, grrrr)

Floweroct · 13/03/2014 07:51

Omg it's a bfp! It couldn't still be the drugs in my system could it???

Happilymarried155 · 13/03/2014 08:37

That's great news! How many days past iui is it? I think the trigger stays in your system for up to ten days x

Floweroct · 13/03/2014 08:59

15dpiui today, I'm really struggling to believe it. I've had mmc over a year ago and still had positive tests 3 months later so slightly disbelieving at the moment!

Happilymarried155 · 13/03/2014 09:00

It's defo a bfp then :) congratulations!!! X

Hi everyone and congrats on the BFP Brew not Wine for you.

Please can I join you ladies? Although I am not having IUI, I am having ovulation induction as clomid didn't work for me and start menopur tomorrow -being shown how to do my injections- nervous but excited! I was told it can take 2-3 weeks before the follicle is mature enough for the HCG shot.

Praying this works for me as I don't ovulate on my own xx

Ellie112 · 13/03/2014 19:55

Great news Flower! I have also got a BFP. Only 16 days post IUI so trying not to count my chicken(s).
Fingers crossed for everyone!!

Happilymarried155 · 13/03/2014 20:07

They messed up my appointment so having to wait until start of April, although I did see the doctor who have is a 60% chance of it working!!! I was so pleased although abit annoying I have to wait another month but I an really busy at work at the moment so prob better in April anyway. Plus I'm going to have the endo scratch which is meant to increase chances of ivf working by an extra 20% and I prob wouldn't have had chance to have that done if I'd done it this month!

How was your holiday aala?

Hope your ok worried! X

Floweroct · 13/03/2014 20:31

Ellie that's brilliant news, fingers crossed for both of us :)
It was my first cycle of iui so can't quite believe it!

Floweroct · 13/03/2014 20:32

Oops hadnt finished! Best of luck to everyone :)

EricaJ · 14/03/2014 05:06

Congrats BFP ladies !

My first IUI failed, which was a bit of a blow to be honest but here we are. Apparently everything was in order (I had two follies of over 20 mm and one of 17mm), sperm count was good etc ... so hopefully better luck next time.

I have a question though. I was on 50 mg of Clomid and the gyno has increased the dose to 100 mg before we move into inyectables.

Will the higher dose of Clomid make ovulate earlier? Since I was ovulating fine before, I am worried I will ovulate super early and I will miss my 'window.

I am due a scan on Monday (cycle day 10) or Tuesday (11) to see how things are going to decide the day for the next IUI.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Has an increase of Clomid improved things for you guys?

Thanks!!

Happilymarried155 · 14/03/2014 11:38

I don't think it will make you ovulate earlier but it will make you produce more follies I think. Did they say why they have put you on a higher dose? You don't want to over stim and get cancelled!

Sorry it failed, it's a real blow when that happens. Good luck for your next cycle x

EricaJ · 16/03/2014 08:56

Thanks Happily!

Over stim is definitely a bit of a concern (that's why my gyno is so reluctant to put me on injectables) but he reckons that increasing the dose of Clomid won't do any harm and may actually help.

Thing is, we are sort of unexplained. My luteal phase became very short (8-10 days) after my first mc, which may explain why it was so easy to get pregnant the first time and it seems mission impossible now. Naturally I ovulate on day 15-16 of my cicle and I start spotting as early as day 24-25. Pre mc I had 28-29 days cycles with no spotting .So I am on tons of progesterone, 2 x 400 mg of Cyclogest, which increases to 3 x 400 mg day from day 23.

However, to make things even more intriguing, when I had my progesterone test on day 21, the test came back high (we were expecting it to be low), my gyno actually reckoned it was so high that I may have been very briefly pregnant that month.

But other than tha (AHEM!) , nothing seems to be wrong with us which makes me feel sometimes that different treatments are a bit of stab in the dark?

Also, we don't live in the UK and our health insurance covers 3 IUI attempts. After that we would have to pay for more IUI or IVF so there is that little bit more pressure to give these 3 attempts our absolute best shot.

I am going for a scan tomorrow and IUI will probably take place on Wednesday or maybe Thursday.

How is everyone else doing?

EricaJ · 17/03/2014 08:44

Morning ladies,

Just came back from scan. Looks like 3 follies should be nice and ready for IUI on Thursday morning.

I am going to try and take the day off this time (even though work is really busy and staying home may end up being more stressful). I will eat pineapple core in the mornings, plenty of Brazilian nuts, lots of water, veggies and fruit and ... what else ladies? Any tips?

worriedmum100 · 17/03/2014 17:32

Hi all

Sorry I've lost track of the thread a little. Congrats to those with bfps!

I'm ok. Actually that's a lie. I'm a bit down at the moment. I think I'm 15dpo. Bfn yesterday so no hope really but also no af. Just have to wait I guess. The mc might have messed my cycle up a bit.

Saw another doctor for second opinion on c section scar. He doesn't think it is causing the infertility but he's referred me to a specialist sonographer to have a closer look. It's more likely to be an issue if I do get pg apparently so useful to find out more about it.

aaLaa · 18/03/2014 08:09

So sorry to hear your feeling down worried hugs, are you going to have another shot at iui. x x x

Erica scan sounds great, fingers crossed for Thursday,

I have a scan this pm to see about lining to start meds for cycle 2.

Good luck ladies, x x

Hi aalaa,

Yes, we'll do another IUI when af shows her face. Another bfn this morning but she still isn't here. Used progesterone gel this cycle so suspect that's delayed it. Yet more waiting. I'm just in one of those phases where I can't see it ever happening :( I can't believe we'll be lucky enough for IUI to work twice in a row and that my only chance has gone.

EricaJ · 18/03/2014 13:48

Hi worried,

Sorry to hear you are feeling down. I very often think that parenthood is one of those things that happen to other people & it's a question of time before we come to accept it. HOWEVER, my best friend has a very similar story of mc, failed IUI etc and is now about to give birth to a baby boy! She said that she also felt it would never happen to her so maybe we need to sort of accept these feelings of hopelessness as part of the journey, without really 'listening' to them if that makes sense?

Hippy rant over! :)

aala let us know how the scan goes! I am cramping a bit and totally paranoid that I am going to ovulate earlier than expected and that we are going to miss the eggs!

How long before IUI are you meant to avoid sex for again?

worriedmum100 · 18/03/2014 18:04

Hi Erica, you are absolutely right. I've pulled myself together a bit during today and had a lovely day with my ds. It helps me to see things in perspective to have quality time with him. I'm so lucky to have him.

Af arrived and somehow that's also helped. Appointment booked for baseline scan tomorrow. As dp says the only thing we can do is keep trying. :)

I think we were told to abstain for 2 days before IUI but it can be tricky as not an exact science obviously. I think we ended up with a 36 hour abstension in the end and the sample was fine. Are you using ov sticks I was told to use them and if I got a smiley face before the trigger shot to ring clinic straight away to go in for the IUI.

EricaJ · 18/03/2014 18:22

I am glad to hear you are feeling better Worried ! I cry and throw tantrums and feel really sorry for myself pretty often. But after 2.5 years of this emotional rollercoaster, I have started feeling that infertility has taken too much space in my life, to the point that I can't imagine things being different (like, spontaneous sex... Say what??). I am fed up of feeling like this so I am making an effort to not allow the negative thoughts take over!

I took an OPK and it was negative (well, second line nowhere near as dark as the control one), thanks for the advice! I took the trigger now so Thursday morning should be fine, at least timing wise.

Man, I don't know what I am looking forward the most: having a baby or putting an end to this constant mindf*ck! :)

Clarey3000 · 19/03/2014 07:58

Hi everyone

I'm a newbie here, been following this thread for a while, found it really helpful to see others going through the same thing.

I'm mid 2ww on first iui cycle. Background is ttc 2 years, I'm 34 DP 35. Unexplained, but with some low morphology (though apparently it washes up well). Also I have pretty short cycle - 23 days - so poss some problem there.

Had clomid last month (luckily no side effects) but lining of womb was only 6mm thick and I ovulated at weekend, so we decided not to trigger and 'waste' a cycle if womb conditions weren't optimum. Was obv hoping it might happen naturally as there were 3 big follicles and I took cyclogest but no luck.

This month they gave me menopur, I found the injections ok but I was sooo emotional it was a nightmare! (Been pretty emotional overall really but this did not help matters!). Had trigger shot then had iui last weds.

Now 7dpiui. Luckily off to Spain for a few days with DP and inlaws which hopefully will help me relax..! Unfortunately DP heads away for work when we get back so won't be around when I test to keep me sane

Does anyone have advice on when to test?! I have first response tests so normally test 6 days before AF due, but guess I can't do that this month as trigger shot will still be in system...

Also has anyone been extra tired with the cyclogest? I'm finding myself exhausted and going to bed super early!

Great to read about some BFP's here, let's hope there's many more to come!
(And sorry this has turned into an essay!)
C.
