Anyone starting IUI soon?

I have a clinic appointment tomorrow, I think to start injections, feeling a bit nervous about the whole thing, looking for others experiences and general chat/support.

This is the first cycle, anyone else in a similar position??

Hi clarey sickness definitely comes and goes so try not to hold too much sway with that! Heaven knows I did that myself though. How many weeks will you be at your scan?

Have never heard of higher risk of IUI in my 6 or so years of doing it. It is slightly increased with IVF though. Did your clinic say that?

I think an 8 week scan is v reassuring though...

Clarey3000 · 22/07/2014 20:41

Ah daddy I've probably got the wrong end of the stick them on the ectopic front - clinic didn't say it's higher risk I just assumed that's why they do scan as the nurse told me to call if I had any stomach pains etc. I'll be 6+5 tomorrow when they scan. Think they were planning to do it next week when I'll be over 7 wks but I'm on holiday.
Wondered about having extra scan in between tomorrow & 12 wk scan (I have insurance thing through work that will cover it), but not sure if that's overkill / I'm being paranoid...!!

How's everyone doing?
X

Hello, hope no one minds me joining the thread...am starting IUI in a couple of months to TTC2. Our first child was a result of our third try of IUI, we also had a couple of M/C and other complications. We had our first private consultation recently and we felt quite positive afterwards, I think we are going to try the same regime that worked last time.

bessie84 · 26/08/2014 11:28

hows everyoNE doing, whos still on the iui train?

ChandlersFarang · 28/08/2014 07:53

Hello!! Thanks Bessie for reviving this thread, I'd like to join. I've just spent over an hour reading it from start to finish! It sounds like some of the main posters have emigrated to antenatal boards given their successes, which is absolutely fab. If any of you ladies are still around and read this thread, thank you so much. I was on a different thread yesterday which made me feel so depressed, but finding this and reading your stories has filled me with hope!!

I'm 32, DH is 31. I was diagnosed with PCOS three months ago after really random, very long cycles after coming off the pill last year. I'm not in the UK, so am paying for my treatment myself, and therefore didn't have to wait 12 months or jump through too many NHS-type hoops to start treatment. I have been taking Femara for 5 days at the start of my cycles instead of Clomid, as I have a thin endometrial lining (was 4.9mm a couple of months back). I've had trigger shot and scans at hospital but we've been doing timed DTD instead of IUI just as we weren't mentally ready for that level of invasiveness quite yet! This will be my third medicalised cycle, due back to the hospital on Monday for another scan after my CD14 scan only showed follies at 6mm. Fx I'll get my trigger next week!! Smile

Doc has told us there's only an 8% success rate doing it this way tho, so I think we will start IUI next cycle if we don't have any luck this time. I think it's wise on the sperm front too, as despite being super healthy DH had a motility score of 40%, 10% rapid (count was good at 40 million though!). Doc said our chances would be up to 15% per cycle with IUI, which seemed a bit low, considering how much success I've read about on here!! Are others being told the same?

Anyway, would be lovely to hear from anyone else still plugging away at this type of TTC game!! Have been pretty positive so far and read lots of helpful things, but the support and reassurance you get from sharing with others being in the same boat is second to none!! GrinGrin

bessie84 · 28/08/2014 11:03

chandlersfarang - good luck with your treatment, this thread is so very quiet, good news if theyve all gone to antenatal. im still waiting on iui injection training appt, then good to go i hope.

good luck with your iui soon. we have pcos and sperm issues too. x

ChandlersFarang · 28/08/2014 11:55

Thanks Bessie! Sorry to hear you've got the double issue like us! DH is getting retested on Monday, hopefully things will have improved a bit on last time! Smile

Where in the world are you? How are you finding your care and the idea of the injections? I have them done here but in the hospital - I'm lucky as it's much cheaper in Asia than it is back home!

Any other ladies out there doing or starting IUI soon? Hare did you have any success?

ChandlersFarang · 28/08/2014 11:55

...or sharon, or may? Or anyone else for that matter! GrinGrin

sharond101 · 28/08/2014 12:37

I am still here, May I believe got her bfp in June. I am not responding as well as hoped to the injecitons and low AMH of 4.6 means most of my eggs will be poor quality. I have an appointment at a private clinic today (my iui is with NHS) for a second opinion and possibly move on to ivf if the odds of iui are not good.

SecondSunrise · 28/08/2014 13:28

Hello! I am still here - also waiting for my appointment for injection training and so on. Sharon I had an AMH of about 2.0 last time and took DHEA supplements which may have helped. Might be worth a try?
Good luck Chandlers our DC1 was conceived using IUI. We are doing the same regime as last time - hoping to start in October/September.

ChandlersFarang · 29/08/2014 17:37

Hi Sharon & Second! Thanks for your messages, and good luck with your current treatments.

Sharon I've never had my AMH tested - sounds like maybe I should! Does it depend on your age? I'm 32 and was told I have a lot of eggs left which is just about the only bit of positive news I've had on the fertility front!! Everything else seems to be a bit of a shambles GrinGrin

Second I'm so glad you had IUI success for your DC! I really hope it works for you again. Are you about to start your first cycle of it for TTC#2? Is it easier to get IUI on the NHS if you conceived via that method before?

I'm also interested to know what you were told your chances were per cycle of IUI. My doc told me really low figures (8% for stimulated cycle followed by timed intercourse, and 15% for stim cycle with IUI) which seem more pessimistic than what I've read online! Hoping that it's not just because their treatment here in Thailand is that much worse, lol..!!

Hope you're all having lovely weekends by the way... I found out my best friend is pregnant today which was a bit of an emotional roller coaster! One of those 2-months-off-the-pill jobs... ShockGrin

ChandlersFarang · 01/09/2014 18:03

Have any of you had to do the self-injecting thing...? Have come home from hospital with 3 days of home injections to do for the first time!! Yikes!! The nurse showed me what to do but it's pretty nuts!! ShockShock

bessie84 · 02/09/2014 09:35

chandlers we're still awaiting our injection training at the end of the month, panicking a bit about it.... whats involved?

ChandlersFarang · 02/09/2014 11:36

Well I did my first one today! And it really want as bad as I thought. Basically you have to construct the syringe and get the liquid into it - fairly basic stuff that the nurse will talk you through. Then you pinch a bit of fat (assuming you have any!) on your stomach between your forefinger and thumb (which sort of numbs it a bit) and then inject into that. If you punch hard you barely feel more than a scratch. You have to then push the plunger down super slowly - the slower the better, as then you don't really feel it! That's it. I was a bit nervous about it today, but won't be tomorrow now I've done it once! Grin Hope that puts your mind at rest. Worth it if I get my BFP!! GrinGrin

ChandlersFarang · 02/09/2014 12:22

*wasn't as bad as I thought... Bloody phone!! Grin

bessie84 · 02/09/2014 12:57

thank you for that, scared i'll make a mess of it lol. and oh yes, plenty of fat on my belly, so thats ok lol x good luck hunny, keep updating, so worth it if bfps are on the agenda. eeeeeeeeeeeeek - exciting x

ChandlersFarang · 03/09/2014 10:42

Ha ha thanks Bessie, I'll keep you guys posted!! Back for a scan on Friday so will see how the old follies are looking and whether I'll get a trigger injection. I really hope a few eggs emerge to give us the best chances!! Grin

Would be good to hear from anyone else in this boat too x x

SecondSunrise · 03/09/2014 11:38

Good luck Chandlers the first cycle is often a bit of a test run - finding out what exact doses work for you and so on. The injecting will become second nature before long honestly.

We won't get any NHS funding this time because of already having a child. That's ok, we knew and expected this. We are lucky to have put away a bit of inheritance money to fund one cycle of IUI and one last ditch IVF of we need to to cover it. Best of luck everyone.

bessie84 · 03/09/2014 12:21

eekk - exciting chandlers good luck for scan friday.

secondsunrise we also paying for our IUI (but paying NHS, HMMM) best of luck x

ChandlersFarang · 03/09/2014 13:04

Thanks Bessie, and Second I'm glad it becomes so normal! Smile Did you conceive your first DC via IUI?

No worries if you don't want to say but how much does a round of IUI in the UK cost? How much are each of you paying, private vs NHS? If I don't have any luck out here in Thailand then I'll be back home next year and having to go down the same road!! Or indeed if I do have any luck and want a second I'll be doing it in England for sure!

bessie84 · 03/09/2014 14:42

because we're actullay private patients, but paying the NHS - a round of iui including drugs for us is £665 - this is so cheap compared to big main areas of uk.

WOOOO - Im excited - just got out injection training / counselling appt - 2 weeks - eeeekkkk. its getting real now. eeeeeeeeeeeek. x

SecondSunrise · 04/09/2014 12:05

First DC was IUI. It was our third try - first got cancelled due to poor response, second worked but ended in miscarriage. I think it costs about 600 plus drugs on top. So about 800-1000? This is a NHS clinic.

its so nice to see positive outcomes that iui works secondsunrise - i sometimes feel so negative about it - but it obviously does work!!

ChandlersFarang · 05/09/2014 05:07

Thanks both, that's really good to know for future financial planning purposes!! I'm lucky being in Thailand that it's a bit cheaper. I think it's £300 per cycle all-in for IUI. I'm just doing the injections/meds/observation and timed intercourse which is about £200. On my way to the hospital now for my scan and hopefully trigger! If we don't get lucky this time (and DH's motility is a bit of an issue - although have got some Preseed to assist there!) then we will be trying IUI next month. Fx!!!
