I know you are totally right Ari! Has anyone had the hidden infection tests, the antibiotics and then gone on to have a pregnancy? I will defo have them done but just curious.

Arianrhod · 19/03/2014 15:19

Lots on the FF boards pebbles .. and I think duggs herself has experience of her DH's sperm being improved after taking the antibiotics, if I'm not mistaken? If I am, slap me with a wet fish duggs and tell me to be quiet ;) .

Arianrhod · 19/03/2014 15:22

Just as an aside, there was a conv with one of the Serum ladies in the past few weeks where Penny had reportedly voiced the opinion that a successful pregnancy is really quite unlikely (although not impossible) with untreated infections. She showed me on the hysto DVD (nice) the red streaks in me that indicated infection - and this was after I'd done the 25 day course, but a good 9 months earlier. I believe the opinion is that hidden chlamydia never really goes away, but it can be subdued - hence why us Serum gals all take doxycycline in the month before cycling, up to ET, and then switch to azithromycin on a BFP.

Arianrhod · 19/03/2014 15:35

Oh, btw pebbles - those infections also leave scarring, hence another reason those of us who have/had infection(s) end up having an hysto.

Sorry for the multiple posts, I keep thinking of things :)

Hi ladies I'm just ducking my head in for some advice and support really.

I've had 2 MC in the last year (9weeks and 5weeks) and have been TTC for around 18 months or so. I've been told I have a 'couple of small fibroids' in my uterine wall but nothing that would cause problems for me other than make heavy periods

Since my MCs my cycles have for shorter and are now at 24 days length, again GP is unconcerned by this.

I'm really wondering where we go, what our options are etc. we are both early 30s and I have DC from a previous relationship DH has none but had a MC with a girlfriend he was with in his teens.

Thank you in advance ladies I know you have more than your fair share of problems yourself

duggs1976 · 20/03/2014 06:56

Yes Ari you r right dr g DNA fragmentation tests showed hidden infection in DH. An intestine/gut type infection so not sure how it is related. But v strong anti b cleared it up and fragmentation dropped from 33 to 15 percent which is normal. I also had hidden infection test with serum and had trace of chlaymdia so had anti B myself. All that was in summer to. Autumn 2012. After that I did get pregnant in jan 2013 (chemical) and July 2013 (trisomy 16) and again now in feb 2014 so I do think they did something as I wasn't pregnant before this for over a year and was on steroids having millions of super ovulation, IUI and IVF attempts that produced nothing but a lighter bank account, stress and worry. It could all be coincidence but even with donor egg the sperm and uterine environment need to be as best as they can be I guess x

duggs1976 · 20/03/2014 06:58

Forgot to say "normal" welcome to thread. If you are thinking of front line tests the miscarriage clinic and dr s are as good as any - bit less intensive than some, therefore cheaper and maybe a good starting point?

duggs1976 · 20/03/2014 07:01

Or zita west dr nudwuke similar... Longer waiting time I think? More holistic approach. If you live north professor quenby or if you want the fully dr beer type investigation dr Gorgy covers it ALL. These seem to be the main recurrent miscarriage specialists right now in the UK. Best of luck.

Pebbles73 · 20/03/2014 13:21

Thanks for all your advice Ari & Duggs. I know I just have to be patient, been patient for thus long....

It does say in thier website if you are having a hysteroscopy they can collect some blood then but generally they prefer to do it first. Who did you ladies send your sample with? I am half tempted to see if I need a hysteroscopy and get them to take the sample as the lady who emailed me said because of my issues Penny would probably want to do one. What would you do? My dh thinks I should follow thier advice and do the infections tests first.

Arianrhod · 20/03/2014 13:54

Well the best reason I can think of to do the infections test first is that if you need them you can get right onto your 25 days antibiotics as soon as possible, whereas if you wait until you have your hysteroscopy .. well, you'll be waiting longer :). I sent mine through good old Royal Mail, sent it as an airmail package. I wasn't asked to complete a customs sticker or anything, but if I had I would just have noted 'gift' or something as lots of ladies do! It took, IIRC, 5 days to get there. Post from Serum at the moment is taking 3-4 days to get to here, so I'm guessing 4-5 days is still about right. It's very easy to do, you just need a standard urine sample collection bottle (get one from your GP if you don't have one already), 'collect' a teaspoon of menstrual blood and mix it with a few drops of saline (I think I used saline contact lens solution or something like that I got at Boots). Package it (I used bubble wrap and a jiffy bag) and send it off, I think Serum give you a doc with some instructions but if not I can dig the instructions out for you.

Just my tuppence worth :)

Pebbles73 · 20/03/2014 14:04

Thanks Ari I was thinking it might be quicker the other way round with hysteroscopy first if they could get me in next weekend as beed to wait another 2.5 wks for af. I didn't do anything for ages and now I want to do everything at once!! Smile

Arianrhod · 20/03/2014 14:08

Ah, well if that's the case, if you can get over there for your hysto etc that quickly then that would definitely be the better route :) Have they said they can then? That would be fab!

Definitely understand the wish to get everything going NOW! Grin

Get out there pebbles and meet penny! Have the aqua scan to See if you need a hysto your man can leave his sample for DNA test which is next say turn around. I would be tempted to say "give us the anti bs anyway presume we have some infections" and then get on with taking them and then the following month you will both be as treated as you can possibly be? Is that cheating? I don't think so it is just strong anti bs and I'd get then in me just in case. Not sure if you allowed to do this but you could ask? Just a thought as I think getting going is what you need ... Either way you need to move forward before the summer kicks in for your own sanity I reckon.
Incidently, I don't feel in the least bit pregnant today - no nausea and am 8+4 today and thinking fetus has stopped growingHmm have early morning scan with dr S tomorrow then if ok intrallipids but am freaking out now. Can't be arsed to do it all again so bloody exhausting !!

Pebbles73 · 20/03/2014 18:58

Thanks ladies, have emailed the lady who deals with appointments to see if they have anything then that will decide for me really!!

I feel for you Duggs as it is such a stressful time and we all automatically assume the worst. Just try and remember symptoms come and go so it could be nothing. Try and occupy yourself with a good film or something tonight. Will be crossing everything for tomorrow, sending you a big hug.x

Mel3062 · 20/03/2014 19:09

Hugs duggs I echo what pebbles says. Were all rooting for you tomorrow and were with you every step of the way!!

duggs1976 · 20/03/2014 20:05

Thanks ladies. Going to watch Davina and her million mile challenge that should take my mind off it! I hope there is an app pebbles. I was supposed to have my one tomorrow - supposed to be in Athens now.... I did cancel it so it was free for others as knew either way if I need one it wouldn't be tomorrow.

Arianrhod · 20/03/2014 22:00

Rooting for you duggs, hope all goes well tomorrow!

brownstag · 21/03/2014 08:00

Buried under work at the moment so briefly surfacing to say good luck duggs today, and ari with the 2-week wait. And anyone else who needs it; sorry, I haven't had to a chance to read properly .

duggs1976 · 21/03/2014 08:49

Just seen dr s for tummy scan all good strong heartbeat 167bpm and measuring bang on for 8+5 wks. Hooked up to intrallipids now blood pressure v high!

brownstag · 21/03/2014 09:13

That's wonderful, Duggs! I have a suspicion that this is going to be the one! x

Arianrhod · 21/03/2014 09:13

Oh fan-bldy-tastic duggs, that's brilliant news!!! :) Blood pressure high because of the stress of it all, or is there something else affecting it?

AFM ... feeling nothing at all. If this/these embryo(s) have implanted, they're doing so in the most silent way possible!

brownstag · 21/03/2014 09:37

Meaningless, Ari. I didn't even feel ovulation let alone implantation with my last conception.

Arianrhod · 21/03/2014 09:58

Yep, I know it's all meaningless brown - and even feeling something can also mean bugger all. I was just commenting :) How are you doing??

Arianrhod · 21/03/2014 10:28

Hmmm I'm on the Yahoo Immunology Support list, and a post has just come through saying this:

Just an FYI to everyone as I found out some interesting info today. Had an initial consult w braverman today. I mentioned to him that I was taking DHEA and he told me to stop taking ASAP. While it does help supposedly w egg quality, he said that it is an immune activator.

Now I have quite a lot of time and respect for Dr Braverman, he was the one who pioneered the use of neupogen for a start, and Serum do I believe fairly closely follow his protocols. If he thinks DHEA can raise immune levels, then perhaps for those of you taking DHEA you might want to do a bit of research into this?? Just a thought.
