The first thing your gp should offer you are day 3 and day 21 blood tests.

I can't remember what day 3 are for, possibly fsh.

But day21 will tell you if you are ovulating or not!

How long have you been ttc for?

As for the ovary pain I get this quite a lot throughout the month, I have pcos.

Go to gp and see if they will start ball rolling on fertility tests. Firstly they do blood tests, sometimes repeat them to check things ok more than one month. Then order a semen analysis for dh. Then puts in a referral to fertility unit. It depends on the dr you see there as to the order of tests. Personally it depends on finances and timings for you. Took me 6 months from seeing gp to seeing a registrar at local hospital who for me ordered repeat bloods, repeat tests for husband. Another 3 month wait to see a different registrar who ordered a HSG to see of tubes blocked. Then depending on results as to what they do next.

So on NHS you get bloods, semen analysis, a HSG and anything else depends on your symptoms and what they recommend. Before you can have fertility treatment you need: a recent smear test, STI tests, HIV blood tests and a few more that I cannot remember soworth getting those done as soon as possible and to save time.

If you are concerned about gynae problems then you could ask for referral to a gynae to see if can get a scan but that does not mean fertility testing.

Thank you very much...that really helps!!! ...it seems so long winded though @ hoophopes.... i have had some blood tests done but they lost the results 4 bloody times so i had some done AGAIN on friday.. i dont know how long test results take to come back as mine have never actually come back but i have a day off on thursday so i'll go back to my GP and start demanding some better treatment etc.
Fingerscrossedlegsnot ( i love the name by the way), I think i've just had the 21 day ones again so i suppose i'll at least know if i ovulate or not.... i've been trying for 3 years with no success although a year of that or just under i had personal probs and gave up for several months during that 3year period because i couldn't cope with the hurt and disappointment each month on top of everything else. I think i do have PCOS as the pain is never at a precise time of the month so i cant say oh thats ovulation pain or premenstrual/mentsrual cramps its always jut random and can be very severe that it makes me wanna cry at any old time during the month...yesterday it was so bad i came home from clothes shopping to cheer myself up as it was hurting so much. today i have no pain at all??? ....so strange...to be honest the pains are worse than my menstrual cramps are. I have light periods now is that assoc with PCOS? its only been the last 6 months or maybe nearly a year i have been getting these pains... do you have children??? did you find it hard to conceive if you do have kids??? i'm 37 and worried that thats me done now forever...i know the only thing to do now is get tests done to see where and what is going on but i think if it takes that long i shall go mad!!! ..also, what do you take to help the pain??? i have had 5 pregnancys but lost all 5 , 2 abortions which i now am so ashamed of and think thats why i'm getting punished now , however i was very young in my late teens and got pregnant on the pill, then the persona ( some machine that they used to use in my day for contraception which i think now is used as a ovulation monitor as there was an epidemic of unwanted pregnancys at the time !!!! , the other were miscarriages. (this was when i was in my twenties), now i'm in my 30' nothing!!!! ...apart from month after month of disappointment...my AF is due in 4-5 days and although i know i'm NOT pregnant a I never am i know i'll still cry my heart out.... THANKYOU FOR LISTENING........xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Thanks

Do you have a 28 day cycle - as day 21 bloods are for people with a 28 day cycle - if longer cycle or shorter needs to be 7 days before AF due.

Have you asked for repeat miscarriage tests - you can get these on NHS if they have records of 3 miscarriages in your files.

I had lots of tests lost - thesedays I go to the secretary and ask for print outs!! Good luck

Hi Layla, my periods are also very light, they barely last three days and only one of those with very much flow tmi sorry!

Yes I have one ds conceived when I was a few stone lighter, weight is not helpful with pcos and ttc. We have been ttc for 2.5 yrs now. I was on clomid which resulted in two chemical pregnancies, them femara which did not work at all as I didn't ovulate. Now i will be going for next appointment shortly so who knows what will happen.

Re the pains, as I said in my previous post I get them at different times throughout the cycle kinda random. Last night I needed pain killers and it was only cd 7. My theory is it is my poly cystic ovaries trying to ovulate but not succeeding.

I think you need to really get under your gps skin. It sounds like he needs to get the finger out. To him you are just another patient but this is you life make yourself known to him. As for blaming yourself....don't, these things just happen, it's shit, I know but not your fault! X

I think I had pcos since my late teens, I had my ds in my early twenties. My cycles were always irregular and had excess hair but I was not overweight then, so I think I was ovulating sometimes then but now with the excess weight I do not ovulate at all.

Best of luck and yes please do keep us posted!
