and apparently Amir Khan too.

Why oh why do people not bother to keep taking malaria tablets when they return?

I looked after an ITU patient with malaria, it was nasty!

I hope they both recover, and I hope it will help people to sit up and take notice of the importance of anti-malaria medication

hope she gets better soon, poor woman

cyteen · 06/07/2010 19:37

I thought this was going to be a sleb birth announcement thread [puerile]

Itsjustafleshwound · 06/07/2010 19:39

There is also the issue of taking the right medication for the area, be aware of some of the side effects of the pills and also take precautions

NormaStanleyFletcher · 06/07/2010 19:41

Poor woman.

There is a glancing possibility that I will be going to Tanzania with work. Do the tablets protect you 100%?

mamalovesmojitos · 06/07/2010 19:43

bit ashamed i know this, but i read the story online today and apparently she did take malaria tablets, contracting the disease despite this.

Itsjustafleshwound · 06/07/2010 19:45

I don't think there is any 100% effectiveness ..

Citronella, a net around your bed, fan or moving air in the room and the best excuse to drink some G&Ts!

muggglewump · 06/07/2010 19:50

I've had Malaria, it's really not fun.
I hope she's OK.

EldritchCleavage · 07/07/2010 13:30

Norma, make sure you have a net and if all else fails douse yourself (or the net) in TCP-vair effective mosquito repellent!

If the thought of that pong is too much or you have sensitive skin Tisserand lavender gel is quite effective.
