Bridget Jones

Has anyone been reading the new Bridget Jones diary in the Independent? Started last week. I am thoroughly confused by it. I gather the year is 2005 in this new diary, but it reads as if her life is just carrying on from where it left off in 1997 or whenever the last book was published. Also, I thought at the end of The Edge of Reason her and Mark were together? But in the new diary she is sh*gging Daniel again?

I don't get it at all! Can anyone enlighten me?

I mean, is it supposed to be 2005 now and she is still torn between Mark and Daniel, still single, still in the same job, no change at all... apart from the terrorist thread around her...

how utterly depressing! Surely there must be a twist of some sort?

I thought she was engaged to mark?

when's the new book out?

I don't think there is a new book planned at the moment, just the newspaper columns in the Independent.

Anybody else got any ideas?

I thought the next stage would be to see Bridget tackle motherhood in her usual cackhanded way. But if it is the same old same old then I will not bother!
