Melanie McDonagh in the Times . If it wasn't so hateful it would be laughable. Another classic from the journalist who competes with Jan Moir for the prejudiced moron of the week award.

'Mr Brogan was too kind to say so let me say it'
!!!!!
Don't know where to start really.
She clealy thinks that because someone is blind they don't know what is going on in the world.
So that's why I don't read the Telegraph then.

Hasten to say I don't read the telegraph either. I saw a comment on the article elsewhere and couln't believe it until I went and found the source.

"The two groups of people ? the pensioners and the demonstrators ? encountered each other sporadically on the road and at the bus stops. There was no overt hostility on either side ? it was a sunny afternoon ? but there seemed no mutual goodwill either, just joint, slightly baffled incomprehension."

The same thing would have happened if it were little old ladies and punk rockers.

Horrible.

It turns my stomach that when dh and I go waling down the street, some people won't see us as human beings but "Islam in Britain."

How do people get away with publishing such nasty, racist (yes it's racist, all the countries she mentioned are non-white) and ablist filth?

I just don't understand. I live my life, work, pay my taxes, obey the law, as does dh and most Muslims, yet I can't pick up a newspaper without being portrayed as the subhuman doom of the nation.

Snobear4000 · 16/06/2010 02:24

Wow. That really is a non-story. People from mixed backgrounds walked about in London's streets and nothing happened.

Except that some of them were Muslims and that may or may not have been disturbing for some pensioners.

This week I have had to cross the Guardian, the TImes and the Telegraph off my reading list. The Independent is now owned by the Mail. What the hell is left? Those newspapers on the other side of the rack, the ones written by old Etonians yet liberally using words like "boffins" instead of "scientists" in order to appeal to the proles...

...helpless emoticon...

Horrible article.

wannaBe · 16/06/2010 15:27

haven't read the article, but I actually knew someone who thought that David Blunkett shouldn't be allowed to be a politician because he is blind.

He didn't dare voice this opinion to me however, but he did voice it to my sister who said, "well what about wannabe, shouldn't she be allowed to do the job she does?" to which he replied "well yes of course, but that's different. It's not as if she's responsible for making laws and stuff.

Such enlightened people out there.

chipmonkey · 16/06/2010 16:13

MIL didn't believe one of our local politicians shouldn't be a politician because he had a stammer.

Kevlarhead · 19/06/2010 21:48

I'm sure the Telegraph could save on newsprint by simply editing their stories a bit better.

This one could be very nicely compressed down to "OMG DARKIES!"

AnnaBafana · 19/06/2010 21:50

What a fucking imbecile
