fox attacks

Does anybody else think there is something not quite right about the so called fox attack in London? I have always known foxes to be timid and certainly not likely to climb up two lots of stairs. There is more to this than meets the eye

Suddenly there seem to be loads of fox experts around.

But a wild-fox expert is not needed in this case; an urban fox expert is what is needed because foxes are now living closer with humans then ever before and their behaviour is different to that of wild foxes.

Some very stupid comments on this thread.

Whatever is the truth behind this tragic incident, it is a reminder that the fox, along with the Golden Eagle are, after humans, the top preditor in this country.

Humans think they are infallible and are the top dogs, but taken out of their urban environment, cease to be so superior.

Mint humbug well done you. I totally agree. Why are there people disputing this? What would you do if this happened to you? There is always a first time for everything and if an animal is hungry enough it will attack! Leave this family alone to rest and recooperate. Nasty comments like the ones above have no place here. You are entitled to an opinion but keep it to yourself and dont disrespect this family on a public forum. I am actually sick of these 'so called' experts stating they have never heard of this, they were not there so cannot dispute it.

The present human population of London is about 7 million plus, the fox population only about 10 thousand.

Fox attacks are extremely rare, as any wild animal would rather run than attack, biting only if cornered or provoked.

And now there is a mob of thugs in London who call themselves Urban Fox Hunters, who claim to be "humanely disposing of urban foxes that attack our children".

They put down meat, in areas where foxes have been seen, laced with a powerful sedative and then club the fox to death.

Not exactly humane is it? And they wear masks to hide their identities while doing this.

Councils won't deal with foxes - or at least mine won't. Rats, yes. Foxes, no. There are three I've seen regularly in my garden this year and this is three more than there have been in the last 20 years. So numbers are definitely on the increase. They do not run away if you shout 'shoo'. Pets have been killed locally.

It's not illegal to shoot foxes but presumably masked gangs roaming London with guns wouldn't go down too well with the population. FYI.. The recommended RSPCA method of killing a trapped squirrel is to place it in a bag and club it over the head with a spade. The Urban Fox Hunters are not breaking any laws.

Apparently the RSPCA are still dumping urban foxes in the countryside, although they will deny it.Our local gamekeeper sees them frequently, and says you can always spot them because their coats are dull, unlike wild foxes, and they show no fear of people.

What about those internet facebook nutters who are going around drugging and clubbing to death urban foxes?

It's happening not far from where the twins were attacked.
