Cabin crew strike dates announced

BBC has just reported that 20 new strike dates have just been announced by BA cabin crew. Various 2-3 day strikes around end of May beginning of June including half term and the bank haoliday weekend.

Will BA survive this? Actually do you think there will be any impact on the labour party?

can't seem to rebook on any suitable flight and easyjet flights now double what we paid for BA flights... beauty of booking early i guess.

will just have to miss our holiday if no flights
wonder if travel insurance will reimburse the car hire?

Wottknott · 13/05/2010 20:09

amidaiwish I'll eat my hat if BA don't get you there! be positive. Don't stress about things that haven't happened yet. I say this to my mother all the time (no offense meant - I'm probably a zilion years older than you amidaiwish)

And on the bright side, you never know, if the Ba strike doesn't get you the volcanic ash may!

Actually DH darted in&out of spain/Barcelona Thu-Sun last weekend when many flights/Spanish airports were closed. You only hear the bad stuff. Good stuff doesn't get a mention. Hence tripadvisor is mostly full of complaints. Happy people are too busy to post, 'cause they are being happy.

amidaiwish · 14/05/2010 00:15

thanks Wottknott, there is only one flight a day where we are flying into, so hopefully it will go ahead. will be positive. no stressing!

amidaiwish · 14/05/2010 14:55

it's not looking good
all flights to our destination are cancelled for Tues, Weds, Thurs, Fri, Sat & Sun next week . won't know about our flight the week after til next thurs.

and can't get through on any BA number to talk to anyone about rebooking options... nothing seemingly available on the website but it's tricky, you have to keep searching by exact destination/day. I just want someone to tell me what is available and i will see whether it's possible. Am on hold for ages then line goes dead. great. thanks striking BA cabin crew you overpaid over made up bitches (men too).

mumoverseas · 15/05/2010 15:33

oh amidaiwish, I'm sorry you're having such a stressful time.
I have to admit, when all this nonsense kicked off in December we had trouble getting any information from BA. We kept just being told by the Travel Agents that they would only re-book AFTER our flight was cancelled by which time my eldest 2 children would have been home alone in the UK.

I hope your flight goes ahead. I read on sky news that they would try to get as many longhaul flights away as possible and about 50% of short haul.

Mind you, even if they do manage to get flights ready to go, just seen on skynews (my only source of real news apart from MN) that the bloody volcanic ash situation has kicked off again. Apparently UK airspace may be shut from tomorrow. When tomorrow though? DH leaves our house at 10pm (local time) tonight to fly back to the UK to land around 6am. Bugger, bugger, bugger!

amidaiwish · 15/05/2010 16:52

oh thanks mumoverseas, i have calmed down a bit from my post, i was stuck on hold to BA for almost 2 hours (anyone know what the rate for 0844 numbers is by the way, eek, the 0800 number just had a recorded message saying they were oh so busy and to call back later then a dead line so!)

eventually got through and they told me to call back end next week when the flight schedules were released. rebooking is only for AFTER the strike period, nothing available for during, which was what i was trying to do.

hope your dh gets back ok, i heard that airspace was only being closed on monday night/tues. my sister's wedding is this friday with lots of rellies flying in from Jersey & Dublin so hope it reopens by thursday [need a worried emoticon!].

mumoverseas · 16/05/2010 05:04

Hi amidaiwish, oh my god, 2 hours on the phone, that won't be cheap.

We had all that nonsense with being put on hold. We were phoning a UK number from the Middle East and then after ages on hold were put through to a call centre in India

I have to assume DH's flight is en route as he didn't get back into bed last night after he left for the airport so all being well, he will land in around an hour. Just hope he can get back here again on Wednesday as planned as don't fancy being stuck with poxy (as in chicken pox) for too long on my own.

Fingers crossed for you and your sister's wedding x

MABS · 16/05/2010 09:51

Hi Mos, glad dh got back, hope he gets home later this wk. BA are losing a lot of senior staff over this, it is not a nice place to work. Of course, now i won't see him til these strikes are over and he volunteers to help at the terminals to help passengers, non striking crew etc.

Do hope all of you get away ok, the other ba staff are doing their best to help passengers get away i assure you all.

amidaiwish · 17/05/2010 18:24

mumoverseas · 17/05/2010 19:08

yay! happy holidays

Wottknott · 17/05/2010 19:28

amidaiwish - I've put my hat back, so glad I don't have to eat it. Great news. Especially after todays cancellations and delays from ash cloud at UK airports today. www.guardian.co.uk here too..

amidaiwish · 20/05/2010 14:30

get eating wottknott
here
strike blimming back on

amidaiwish · 20/05/2010 14:34

but phew my flight actually says it is operating so looks ok, for now

hat back!

CaptainUnderpants · 20/05/2010 14:39

Sack the lot of them , plently of people out there that needs a job !

Not very helpful I know but realy pisses me off when unions can't see the wood for the tress expecailly the way the economy is at the moment.

I dont think the unions care whether they have public support or not.

amidaiwish · 20/05/2010 14:43

i agree with you captunderpants, i think most people do.
i was always worried about the technicality they ruled the strike illegal on though, it was a bit dodgy. why don't they just sack them btw?

it's the non striking cabin crew i feel sorry for, and the other BA staff - having their airline ruined by just a few thousand heathrow cabin crew. i for one will no longer view flying BA as the stress-free, easy choice. Easyjet will be a real contender now and i used to refuse before, all that pre-paying for bags, rush for seats i couldn't be doing with it.

Wottknott · 20/05/2010 14:52

amidaiwish - I did worry about the hat, but then knew the dates you were going and was very relieved for you (and me). I hate eating hats!
