Cabin crew strike dates announced

BBC has just reported that 20 new strike dates have just been announced by BA cabin crew. Various 2-3 day strikes around end of May beginning of June including half term and the bank haoliday weekend.

Will BA survive this? Actually do you think there will be any impact on the labour party?

For god's sake. Did the last strikes not give them the hint that people will not trust them if they ever strike again? Give them enough rope, they'll hang themselves. Looks like they just have. I can't see what it's got to do with the labour party

Hulababy · 10/05/2010 16:30

And this is why I would never book with BA at the moment. Have chosen Virgin over BA for both my May half term holiday (particular couldn't trust them as going for sister's wedding) and for my July summer holiday. No way could I trust BA enough to get me there.

amidaiwish · 10/05/2010 16:31

BA cabin crew to strike from May 18-22, May 24-28, May 30-June 3 and June 5-9

i am so bloody mad.
we go on hol 27th May, back 7th June.
one and only holiday this year.
why i didn't fly easyjet i do not know.
never ever again am i flying BA (and i used to be a gold card member, dh is a silver) they are now boycotted in this house.

arghhhhh

sorry v emotional!

worse still my sister is getting married may 21st, let's hope the guests aren't flying in on BA

amidaiwish · 10/05/2010 16:31

hulababy, i booked the flights back in nov when they were released so gutted.

cornsillkwearsclogs · 10/05/2010 16:32

wankers

amidaiwish · 10/05/2010 16:33

on a more useful note, does anyone from last time know what happens?
do we get alternative flights from BA?
do we get a refund? (including taxes?) or what??

flights with easyjet are not too bad at the moment around those dates, but i need to be quick. but obviously can't shell out again if BA won't refund.

fingers crossed amid

My sister is getting married at the beginning of June in Vegas. We, along wth my sister and fiance, and a few family and friends, are all flying out. Thing we have all chosen Virgin though as BA just aren't reliable enough now.

mumblechum · 10/05/2010 16:52

Try not to panic too much. DS's flight to Spain in the last lot of strikes in March was cancelled but they changed it by a few hours. How they did that for 60 school kids I'll never understand but was v relieved.

well friends have now reassured me that they only cancel selected flights, so fingers crossed that ours will be ok or rescheduled and not too badly affected.

i don't care about getting home, we will bring laptops and can work from there, and dds can miss school and it won't be our fault....

annh · 10/05/2010 17:52

Cannot believe that they have timed it again for school holidays.

amidaiwish · 10/05/2010 17:55

it is about a 3 week period with the odd day when they are not striking. clearly designed to hit BA as hard as poss to force them into a deal. that's dh's read on it anyway. if BA don't fly for 3 weeks they are going to be bankrupt, surely.

merlin · 10/05/2010 18:38

Does anyone know how soon before the strike dates they announce which flights are cancelled?

MollieO · 10/05/2010 18:58

This seems to be all out war between BA and Unite. A three week strike will be crippling and if it is as well supported as they envisage I'm not sure how many people will actually be going anywhere. I feel sorry for those like ami who booked so far in advance. I wonder how many people will ever fly with BA again where they have a choice. They've lost my custom forever.

ElizabethWakefield · 10/05/2010 19:01

I'm really quite worried, a group of 11 of us are off to Florida, flying with BA at the end of June.

We have had it booked for ages well before all the stikes, the kids are so excited, it's going to be awful if we are effected.

We were between booking with BA and Globespan, and went with BA, then Globespan collapsed and we thought we had made the right choice...then the strikes stared

MollieO · 10/05/2010 19:04

EW you should be okay as you are at the end of June and flights should be back to normal. Also you are flying out of school holidays. If these strkes aren't the end then the next ones will likely be in August imo.

amidaiwish · 10/05/2010 19:04

well everyone is busy reassuring me - apparently in the March strikes the list of flights affected was listed in advance and alternative flights/dates offered... so fingers crossed. (you never know we may end up with a longer holiday and what can the school do huh?!)

merlin · 10/05/2010 19:12

Ami - I'm flying to Spain a week on Friday so I hope they announce the cancelled flights soon!!!!

amidaiwish · 10/05/2010 19:20

hope so too... keep us posted

looks like more info will be available tomorrow

here

if you're going from Gatwick you should be ok... but of course we are going from LHR

whomovedmychocolate · 10/05/2010 21:30

If this strikes go ahead, BA will collapse. But it's so unfair to customers holding tickets not to let you know immediately. I guess they are hoping that it won't go ahead and agreement can be reached.

I know a few flight crew on BA and they are ardent unionists. I've heard both sides of the story and I can understand why the crew are cross, among other things they want all of them to be on standby so they can be told when to fly at a day's notice - which isn't great from a childcare point of view, but my response to that would be 'well haven't you been lucky to have something different for so long since the rest of us poor buggers have had decreasing benefit levels and terms for years and years' . Unite seems to be on a path of self-destruction.
