From Esther Rantzen.

What do you think?

Whilst I do see the point she is raising I think this type of journalism (if you can call it that?) is unnecessary, like much of the Daily Mail I suppose.

OP posts:
MunchkinsMumof2 · 30/04/2010 21:02

I have posted an online complaint to the PCC under the Intrusion into Grief and Shock Clause and I urge all others who are as disgusted by this as me to do the same.

junglist1 · 30/04/2010 21:16

"A charity that wouldn't SIMPLY help search for Madeline" . That's vile, who does she think she is

aloevera · 30/04/2010 21:27

So shocked. In what way does ER think that trotting out all the terrible cases she's known of or been involved in is, in any way, helpful? And why do it publicly? Patronizing rubbish.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 30/04/2010 23:03

bump

blueshoes · 30/04/2010 23:31

I have complained to the PCC. Thanks for the link, Munchkins.

ben10isgr8 · 30/04/2010 23:34

I thought about it for a while and I am so disgusted that I had to send a complaint.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 01/05/2010 10:06

bump for todays mners

Besom · 01/05/2010 10:25

I thought I quite liked Esther until I read this article, but it has turned my stomach.

violethill · 01/05/2010 10:59

One poster further up the thread described Rantzen as 'well regarded by the public'.

Is she?

I've always got the impression that she's actually a self seeking busybody who stirs up trouble under the guise of 'being helpful'. This letter is sick, and the most extreme example I've seen, but tbh I think it's in keeping with the sort of stuff she does.

'I'm a really caring, thoughtful person, I'm doing this for the good of everyone else, honest......'

Nasty dangerous piece of work

grapeandlemon · 01/05/2010 11:59

I am flabbergasted at this disgraceful "letter"
Just who the fuck does she think she is?

How on earth must they feel reading such vile and harsh words and phrases . This is about their DAUGHTER fgs.

This has actually made me really

LittleSilver · 01/05/2010 12:38

I've just complained, thank you to the poster who put the link in.

Can't stand the woman. A while back I complained to the BBC when she appeared on BBC Breakfast and used the most pathetic excuse to plug some firm, some accident helpline thing on the flimsiest of pretextx.

They upheld my complaint

PCC is rubbishtoothlessdog a bit soft though.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 01/05/2010 14:37

We could all send a complaint to the PCC
www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/form.html

Just bumping this again in case people didn't see this on an earlier page, please complain as it's the only way we can make our feelings known.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 01/05/2010 14:38

sorry forgot the brackets!

noeyedear · 01/05/2010 22:22

Is the PCC still chaired by Paul Dacre, editor of the aforementioned Daily Mail? The DM can print anything they like- The PCC is a self serving toothless tiger and they will never find against the daily mail! On the point of the letter, what a ridiculous thing to write. Even if 0.00000001% of missing children came back, that doesn't mean you dont stop hoping that one is your child- probably quite the opposite. Not knowing where your child is for a few minutes is terrifying- 3 years must be unbearable, unless they are some kind of unbelievable psycho monsters who have killed their child and have managed to create some massive cover up for 3 years. Not satisfied with having got away with it, they keep bringing it to public attention constantly. Unlikely, I feel.

mariepuree · 02/05/2010 17:13

Esther Rantzen is a sanctimonious busybody. She should keep her patronising advice to herself. If her child went missing, would she just give up hope of ever finding it? Of course not and most parents would not. Why give up hope of ever seeing your child again if you don't know for certain that it is no longer alive?

Silly woman.

porcamiseria · 02/05/2010 22:18

bump, have complained.

MagicMountain · 02/05/2010 22:22

What was the date it was published?

blueshoes · 02/05/2010 22:31

Published 30 April 2010. If you are complaining on the PPC link, I put Clause 3 and 5 of the Code of Conduct as being violated.

MagicMountain · 02/05/2010 22:34

Thanks blueshoes. I had a look on the Press complaints site a couple of days ago but couldn't decide what category to name.

skidoodly · 02/05/2010 22:39

The PCC did not find against Jan Moir.

clam · 02/05/2010 22:41

Badly done, Esther. Badly done.

MagicMountain · 02/05/2010 22:48

Done.

bump

wannaBe · 03/05/2010 15:30

why are people bumping this thread?

The pcc won't do anything about it anyway, but even if people feel the need to complain to them, surely it would be better to start a thread entitled "please complain to the pcc about letter..." or something along those lines. People are unlikely to read through the whole of this thread to get to the point where talk of complaining is mentioned.
