From Esther Rantzen.

What do you think?

Whilst I do see the point she is raising I think this type of journalism (if you can call it that?) is unnecessary, like much of the Daily Mail I suppose.

What a vampire.

"We" have moved on. Good for you Esther. I'm sure the McCanns will be annoyed at themselves they didn't think of it sooner.

abr1de · 29/04/2010 13:36

Children do come back--even after many years. There have been several cases in the last few years.

HerBeatitude · 29/04/2010 13:37

WTF makes her think that she has any right whatsoever to tell someone else how long they can grieve for?

What an appalling woman.

SixtyFootDoll · 29/04/2010 13:37

How can anyone judge the McCanns and how they behave?
I dont know how I would behave in the same circumstnaces, I am sure like them I would never gve up hope.

booyhoo · 29/04/2010 13:38

that is a terrible letter.

ok, perhaps esther has forgotten about maddy and would rather not be reminded of her but who the hell is she to tell the mother of a missing child to move on?

dear god, kate and gerry mccann will never move on from this, they have no answers to move on with and they are clinging on to whatever hpe they have that their daughter is still alive and will one day be at home with them. i would be exactly the same.

esther mind your business.

MerlinsBeard · 29/04/2010 13:44

Hmmm i can kind of see where she is coming from. As "the public" why should we feel an obligation to search for this child and help this family? (or any other family for that matter) There is such a thing as "compassion fatigue".

Having said that, ER has no right at all to tell a family how they should or not feel and for a family that do not even know if their daughter is alive or not they cannot even grieve for her.

Was it Esther Rantzen that founded Childline?

porcamiseria · 29/04/2010 14:03

This has really REALLY REALLY annoyed me

saccharine coated way of telling them to fuck off our screens. How dare she use the DM for this message

They have this platform, why the hell; not use it

and comment such as:Worst of all, is she the prisoner of some twisted individual? I

UGH

fuck off Esther

Move on?

I can't imagine ever moving on in such a situation. I can imagine spending every waking moment thinking of my missing child, wondering where she is and how she was, trying to think of anyway that I could possibly find her. I can't imagine ever not wanting to let people remember her and to not let her fade from the country's memories.

Yes, it is 3 years ago - but I bet to the parents it feels like yesterday in some ways, and a lifetime in others.

It is not our place to tell these parents when it is time to move on and stop searching.

Hulababy · 29/04/2010 14:13

She should have been using the girl's real name too. Apparently she was nevr known as Maddie by her family and friends.

Lutyens · 29/04/2010 14:21

I rarely have occassion to use the word vile, but if this "letter" isn't vile I don't know what is.

tattycoram · 29/04/2010 14:25

What's it got to do with her?

MrsToffeeCrisp · 29/04/2010 14:33

This has made my blood boil.

Esther Rantzen is a nasty witch.

ben10isgr8 · 29/04/2010 14:37

I couldn't read the whole letter because I was too angry.

What a self serving, publicity hungry cow of a woman. How she could even begin to think writing about their child being taken by a "twisted individual" (althought we know it may be true..should never be said) would be appropriate is beyond me!

cloying, sugar coated nastiness.

I hope this bites her squarely in the ass

travellingwilbury · 29/04/2010 14:38

What a horrible letter to write to someone let alone publish it in the newspaper .

Noone can tell you when to move on least of all Esther frigging Rantzen .

And for the record I don't remember looking into her "solemn" eyes . They always looked very bright and happy to me .

As nan would say " What a fucking liberty"

ilovemydogandmrobama · 29/04/2010 14:40

So glad Esther has moved on. In fact, I was wondering a few days ago, 'how is Esther Rantzen feeling about Madeleine McCann's tragic disappearance...'

Madeleine McCann is not public property. She is a child and her parents will not give up looking for her until she is found, and hope to god that Esther Rantzen never has to ensure the disappearance of any of her children.

And while suggesting to the McCann's that they should focus their energy on charitable causes, perhaps any money Ms Rantzen makes from this piece of gutter journalism, is similarly donated to a worthy cause.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 29/04/2010 14:41

TBH I couldn't read all of it and much as I have a lot of time for ER I think this was unnecessary and will not help in any way.

missorinoco · 29/04/2010 14:42

Move on?!
Esther Rantzen's a mother, and she's telling Kate McCann to move on?!

[flabbergasted emoticum]

I suppose the fact it's written in the Daily Mail says it all. My opinion of Esther Rantzen has now crashed.

foureleven · 29/04/2010 14:44

Patronising fucking bitch. As if kate hasnt thought of all of those points like, 50,00000 times by herself.

pagwatch · 29/04/2010 14:44

I tried to add a comment on the article ages ago but it isn't coming up. Either they are all at lunch or I broke their profanity filter.....

foureleven · 29/04/2010 14:54

who actually reads the daily mail...?

Hulababy · 29/04/2010 14:56

foureleven - not sure; I only ever "read" it when linked to via MN.

missorinoco · 29/04/2010 14:58

Hmm, this is a point though. Won't they get a hit when we click on the article?

I suppose copy and pasting it each time to avoid that is unrealistic.
