Wonderful shots. I love the Icelandic landscape and the ones with the Northern Lights in as well as the volcano are particularly cool.

BariatricObama · 19/04/2010 20:37

the lightening is caused by bruce willis, will smith and david tennant all simultaneously saving the world from Armageddon

YouMightKnowMe · 19/04/2010 20:39

Not sure howthe video came up then.

Just found the gallery though. I love picture #9 & 10

YouMightKnowMe · 19/04/2010 20:40

Just reading the captions it sounds as though it is unclear what is causing the lightening. ..One theory is that that the spewing magma bubbles or particles of volcanic ash are themselves electrically charged, and by their motion create separately charged areas

I love that lightning photo - saved (with some difficulty) for a possible desktop image; I love these kinds of images.

I posted this over on the weather topic, but there's some amazing images of lightning within the plume:

www.ruv.is/upptokur/sjonvarpid/eldingar-i-gosmekkinum-i-gaerkvold

Click on the picture and Windows Media Player opens showing a short clip of lightning within the plume.

Jareth - your link goes to the still image, but I clicked on the "Watch video of lightning in volcano ash cloud" just under the image and I got to the video (eventually, my internet connection is very slow this evening). That's a fascinating video.
