Australian publisher has had to pulp and reprint a cook-book after one recipe listed "salt and freshly ground black people" instead of black pepper. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8627335.stm

lol yes i read that earlier

AgentProvocateur · 17/04/2010 22:34

As a proofreader, I found this quite funny. (There but for the grace of God...)

I'd find it equally as funny if it said "freshly ground white people."

PrivetDancer · 17/04/2010 22:35

I can't believe they're throwing them all away, seems a terrible waste for what is quite clearly a mistake and nobody in their right mind would be offended surely?!
Collectors item though, surely.

PrivetDancer · 17/04/2010 22:36

Surely, surely?!

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 18/04/2010 11:51

I don't know I'm sure somebody would be offended - and I also would have found it funny to be freshly ground white people

I suppose they have to throw it away because albeit it a mistake, the potential for litigation? (breaking race laws - although unintentionally?)

toccatanfudge · 18/04/2010 12:00

I saw this an laughed too - very unfortunate misprint.

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 18/04/2010 21:16

but would someone really be able to sue over a misprint in a book that wasn't intentionally meant to be in anyway racist ?

And that's why proofreaders > MS Word spellchecker...
