Funny how people who claim to have devoted their whole life to following the words of Jesus have so little understanding of humility - or honesty.

I'm not convinced that celibacy is particularly the cause of the problem, but homosexuality isn't either - as the last para of that clearly shows. Clearly the man has no basic grasp of logic.

Non-celibate denominations are not immune from paedophilic parsons and pastors.

Its about power relationships and being in a position of abusable trust. And of believing that your sins can be forgiven by someone other than the victim.

it never ceases to amaze me that religious denominations are so bothered by homosexuality, something between consenting adults, and that to various degrees advocate expelling and excluding any homosexuals yet hide and protect people who so seriously damage children

Did we really need any more proof that the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church is ignorant, illogical, delusional and fearful of homosexuals?

I agree with GrimmaTheNome. Paedophiles hve traditionally sought out jobs and places in society where they are in contact with children. Youth work, befriending single mothers, educational establishments, etc.. The role of priest provides access to children together with the aura of unassailable respectability and trustworthiness. Abusing that position is all too easy if you're that way inclined. Your victims are unlikely to be believed. It's even easier if your superiors want to brush your crimes under the carpet rather than alert the police.

The homosexuality comment is merely par for the course. Shifting the blame, yet again.

I also think there is, perhaps, a history of RC homosexuals who are in denial, or whose families are in denial, and perhaps pushed them into the church as a way of keeping them 'pure' and to stop them shaming the family. If their true sexuality is repressed like that then it is more likely, I'm sure, to manifest itself as paedophilia in such circumstances, but in general terms his argument is total utter nonsense. The RC church has no credibility whatsoever. They lurch from bad to worse trying to extract themselves from this mess. And as for the Pope....what a charmer. What a calculating, conniving politician of a man. What an example to us all.
