To be honest I'd be happier if they scrapped the trusts and used the money to increase the number of frontline social workers and the morale of those who already exist.

If you have any involvment in social work, you'll know how little time is spent actually with the families.

Good. Get social workers out from behind their computers and back doing their jobs. Less Bureaucracy= more time to help the children who need it.

"Despite being a crossbencher, the peer was the architect of Labour's Every Child Matters programme, a framework to improve the lives of children. His recommendations led to the Children's Act in 2004, the creation of ContactPoint, a database that will hold information on all children in England and Wales ‑ which the Tories have promised to scrap ‑ and the appointment of Britain's first children's commissioner."

I think the Tories have the right idea about scrapping Lord Laming's "reforms". Child protection is now based on the theory of "arse covering" with form filling galore. Social workers need to be seeing families not sitting in endless "pass the buck" meetings.

Kathyjelly
I do have involvement in social services, I am a frontline worker.
Atlantis - ironically I have indeed been sitting at my computer all ruddy day. I won't bore you with what I've been doing but it has all been very useful I assure you.
I will also be spending almost every hour of the rest of the week out seeing people, hence why i need to have an office day every now and again.

Good news that they wil be scrapping Laming. It was only an additional amount of box-ticking and no substitute for social workers being out there on the ground.

The Tories are fuckwits who are far from supporting child protection and are essentially hanging frontline Social Workers out to dry. The duty to co-operate is essential to protect children. Schools and Health have been appalling in the past and this will give some people the excuse they need to ignore the lives of abused children. Don't for a second think it's a good thing.
