The House of Commons spent more time debating sodding fox hunting than the invasion of Iraq. I sometimes worry about all politicians priorities.

Ban fox hunting or don't ban it, I don't actually care either way.

j0807bump · 02/04/2010 23:19

don't know anything about politics but do know an awful lot about us rural folk who like to ride our horses and take our dogs for walks without feeling the need to tear a living creature apart for the hell of it

always said i'd never vote tory because they'd revote and prob over turn the ban

fully expect them to take power and support the hunting lot in allowing them to do what they want thinking that the only people who want the ban in place are those in cities.

they're bloody well wrong and there are plenty who live here (countryside) and do not want the hunters back in any which way.

My god a free vote on something, do you mean democracy will be restored to the house if the conservatives win ?

Well there's a reason to vote conservative if ever I heard one because there's been no democracy there for the past 13 years.

The new slogan; vote conservative get democracy.

Longtalljosie · 03/04/2010 07:55

Atlantis - "issues of conscience" are always free votes. The 2004 Hunting Act was also decided by a free vote.

atlantis · 03/04/2010 12:27

"Atlantis - "issues of conscience" are always free votes."

And Labours chief whips and bully boys were just there to hand out tea and biscuits.

Not very surprising the Tories have been doing a stirling job of wooing the rural vote out here . I agree with much of what he has to say about hunting.

MitchyInge · 03/04/2010 13:00

Good-o at last a democratic decision

don't see why the squeamish should impose their delicate sensitivities on everyone else

ThatVikRinA22 · 03/04/2010 13:16

another reason for me not to vote tory then.

nicky campbell got it right first time i think.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 03/04/2010 13:53

mitchyinge, being uncomfortable with the torturing and killing animals for fun does not have to stem from squeamishness.

MitchyInge · 03/04/2010 14:00

What on earth do you consider trapping, poisoning and long slow death from shooting then?

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 03/04/2010 14:05

Well, if I was given a choice of ways to be executed, being shot would probably be near the top of the list; being chased for my life and then ripped apart by dogs would probably be near the bottom.

You might feel differently. Each to their own.

For those with an interest in animal welfare, I gather the Tories also support extending the Welsh badger cull to England. (Worth reading the comments at the bottom of the page, the NFU are in favour, but I know a fair few dairy farmers who are anti round here, largely because of the experiences in Ireland.) At the moment the Labour policy, as I understand it, is to trap and vaccinate badgers, rather than trap & shoot.

the truth is most people don't give a flying fuck about hunting - ban it/don't ban it - who cares? There's bigger things to worry about.
