I have seen his book, Dear Krauts, I think it is called.

Looks like a pseudonym he's only had for a couple of weeks- probably made it up when planning this article.

He is a regular journo at The Times. His name really struck me before but reading it above that story this morning just made me.

He is a real person. I was once working on a different broadsheet, on the diary column, and we pointed out the 'unfortunate name' thing when he'd written a similar story (many years ago).

Subsequently heard on the grapevine that he was very VERY upset INDEED about having it pointed out.

Well, it is not surprising that he was a bit upset about it being commented on. He has probably heard enough comments about his name.
