Baby sling recall in the US

Story here

Sadly three babies have died in this particular type of sling.

I have to admit I've never liked that type of sling, they are not very adjustable and the baby is hanging too far down and not close enough to the mother's chest. Also the material is far too thick. It's more akin to carrying a baby in a bag rather then a traditional sling.

Unfortunately though this will give baby carrying a bad name although I am sure that there are many more babies who sadly die in prams then in slings.

Apparently they are also being recalled here and most of europe as well. I hope it doesn't put people off, my dcs all loved their sling, although it was not this type. It's a very story.

I hope it doesn't put people off slings but I also hope it means more stringent testing of slings before they are put on the open market.

oh - that is so sad

I have used slings with both my children and am still using a sling with DD - although it is not like the one pictured

agree Belgo - it is like a bag

I've just realised that the reason I was so scared of having dd in the sling (Baby Bjorn type, not as shown in pic) was almost certainly that her hypotonia made her slump in a way that probably was quite risky; she never looked like the pictures. Maybe mums of hypotonic children should have special sling advice.

Ds seemed to love this sling, obviously he was only quiet because he couldn't breathe! Moved to hugabub and never looked back.
