The man who invented beta-blockers and H2 antagonists (anti-ulcer drugs) had died. A truly great scientist. I had the good fortune to meet him once - he was an inspiration. God rest him.

Yes, I just saw that yesterday.
I didn't know he invented H2 antagonists as well - quite a man.

ds1 doing an 'international news' project at school this week, I got him to include this item as fits with the other new story of USA finally sorting out its healthcare insurance - we have the nhs and great researchers/inventors, they spend twice as much of their gdp on a private healthcare which has worse results (life expectancy and infant mortality at birth as egs)
