Class sizes for Scottish primary children - 18, 25 30?? Does it matter?

This effects my family. May 2007 Gov manifesto promised classes of no more than 18. Sounded great - they got my vote.

Currently there are more like 25 in school we are planning to use. So 18 sounded good, yes?

But instead, it now looks like there are going to 30 instead! Link below:

What do you think? Does it matter?

Ds wont go to school until 2012 but it concerns me.... I dont understand how a teacher can even look after 30 kids of that age. Very worrying.

Having said that I cant see how they can reduce the class sizes with the amount of children in the county, the only solution as far as I can see is to build new schools? Obviously they cant build a new school in every town/village to accomodate this..

Very sad.

Are you in South Lan btw?

No, but it will apply to my LA too. I wrote to the Cabinet Secretary last night asking for his reassurance that the pledge to reduce class sizes for the most deprived 20% would not make it worse for any other child.

I await the response with interest!
