this is why toy guns are a bad idea

heart breaking story

How many more children need to die? I know the poor parents were at fault here and will never forgive themselves, but if children did not routinely play with toy guns i honestly believe these dreadful accidents would not happen as much. They would be taught NOT to touch things that look like guns just like they are taught not to touch other things like sockets and fires.

so so sad

I think the really simple solution is to not let kids near real guns.

DrNortherner · 09/03/2010 18:16

Oh come on. Nothing to do with toy guns, but everything to do with irresponsible man leaving a loaded gun on a coffee table in front of a 3 year old.

trixymalixy · 09/03/2010 18:16

very sad, but nothing to do with toy guns, people shouldn't be allowed real guns full stop.

Hardys · 09/03/2010 18:17

This has nothing to do with toy guns. It is down to the human error of the father for leaving a loading real gun where a child can get hold of it.

DarrellRivers · 09/03/2010 18:18

FGS
Danger here is real guns

scattyspice · 09/03/2010 18:18

I'm sorry the childs step father left a LOADED FIREARM ON THE COFFEE TABLE. That is why the poor child died. Nothing to do with her playing with TOY guns.

You could say that if we allow our children to drink water then they have only themselves to blame if we leave a bottle of Domestos on the coffee table and they drink it.

JeremyVile · 09/03/2010 18:18

Yeah, sorry but I think you've got this all arse over tits.

Kaloki · 09/03/2010 18:18

Also gun was loaded, and I assume had no safety on it, and was placed within easy reach of a child. Probably had a hairpin trigger too(any gun owners know more about this?).

The fault is so far from the controller!

Kaloki · 09/03/2010 18:19

scattyspice Absolutely spot on

HellBent · 09/03/2010 18:20

My DC's love playing with toy oven, iron and kettle and could quite easily harm themselves if they touch the real version. However these things are not used with the purpose of killing people though! Tragic case and totally dad's fault

HellBent · 09/03/2010 18:21

And knives to chop plastic vegetables too, I'm going to have to throw out half their toys!

Skegness · 09/03/2010 18:24

What a utterly bizarre conclusion for you to draw from this story, WorriedEbayer. "this is why guns should never be kept at home" would be rather more obvious...

GypsyMoth · 09/03/2010 18:24

oh dear!!

reasoning could just as well, be if they HAD toy guns, then real ones might not be so interesting?

Morloth · 09/03/2010 19:23

Um no. We had toy guns growing up and as we lived on a farming property the adults in the family had real guns.

You know what? There was never any confusion, because as children we never ever had access to real firearms until we were old enough to be taught to respect them and to assume that it is always loaded and that it wanted to be fired.

What kind of fucking idiot leaves a loaded gun anywhere (whether a child can access it or not)?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 09/03/2010 19:25

Same as Morloth.

DecorHate · 09/03/2010 19:28

Agree that it is inadequate gun control that is the issue, not that children play with toy guns. I would love to live in the US for a bit (have done so before) but the gun control issue is one of the things that has put dh off (has has worked there a lot).

I have a "friend" who once moaned that her ex-dh had bought their son some sort of gun - not concerned about the gun per se but because the ex had not taken the time to show the ds how to use it

MillyMollyMoo · 09/03/2010 19:30

My DC's love playing with toy oven, iron and kettle

So did mine they never go near the real things though tragically

SoupDragon · 09/03/2010 19:31

OP, you are a loon.

"What kind of fucking idiot leaves a loaded gun anywhere (whether a child can access it or not)?"

that is the real problem

tartyhighheels · 09/03/2010 19:33

real guns and fucking idiotic parents are the problem here

poor thing

nancydrewrocks · 09/03/2010 19:34

Couldn't say it better than morloth
