What do you think about the woman sentenced to 2 years for 'false rape claims'

The more I read about this the more confused I get.

Grauniad story here

Woman against Rape trial report

and a local paper report

Don't know what to think as it is all so very strange, if she did make it up then good, she should be sent down, but what if she didn't? How barbaric is it if she was telling the truth?

Given that she's been convicted, I'm confident enough in the legal process to think this means she did make it up. However, it seems like she's very troubled and I'm not sure that two years in prison will be beneficial for her, or for anyone. I could understand the sentence more if it was a malicious accusation against a particular person, but as she seems to be more unstable/unwell than malicious, I'm not sure that the sentence is appropriate.

From your second link, I certainly think the police investigation was breathtakingly incompetent...

What gets me is that whenever a woman is convicted of perjury/false accusation wrt rape charges, the press runs and runs with the story. Yet newspapers rarely (with a few honourable exceptions) make a big noise about the horrendously low rate of reporting/arrest/convictions for rape, leaving the public with the general impression that rape Hardly Ever Happens, and that false accusations are the norm.

@intergalactic I agree she needs to have a proper mental assessment and prison won't help her at all. I noticed an article this week about a 19 year old girl who accused a boy of rape in order that she could claim criminal injuries compo she was caught out b cctv footage and the fact she put in a claim 2 or 3 days later, it sounds like she fucked the boy's life good and proper as he had received death threats etc

I am totally for equal cover and outrage on both sides of the coin as either ruins lives
balance is vital.
