I wonder which former devotee wrote this?

No such thing as bad publicity? Or does it make us look like a bunch of beeeatches?

OP posts:

Bumperlicious - there is a whacking great picture of Justine at the top of the article (major giveaway) and plenty of insider info in the article. It is a PR article ie one that MNHQ have "planted" in The Times by getting their journalist friend to write it.

That's how journalism works!

Bonsoir · 14/02/2010 11:07

Presumably Justine and Carrie are fed up with all the schoolground behaviour (we know how loathe they are to delete threads, yet there has been a lot of this going on recently) and want to let the world know this.

Only the article doesn't condemn the culprits.

Maybe Justine and Carrie should read their site a bit more closely?

foxinsocks · 14/02/2010 11:08

well that's me and you done for then riven

I imagine they've invited their 'top' posters anyway, no doubt secretly

I think the article doesn't take account of the fact that people use mumsnet for different reasons. I get enough boring intellectual stimulation from work so come on here to have a laugh or talk about health issues. I don't take it too seriously.

tis fairly public knowledge that mumsnet in bed with the times

southeastastra · 14/02/2010 11:11

i do sort of agree that is you post moaning about some of the language used. you get lots of sweary posts back and off you f*cks. bit wearing.

Bumperlicious · 14/02/2010 11:13

It's a stock photo surely, I think your conspiritising Bonsoir (yes, it's a word, I made it up!).

I just thought the article was a bit pointless really, do that many people really care about the mumnset soap opera?

Bonsoir · 14/02/2010 11:15

Bumperlicious - I suspect you don't know many PRs and journos?

When you are not acquainted with the media, it is fairly common to believe all journalism is of an impartial and/or investigative nature.

MmeLindt · 14/02/2010 11:15

The examples are not bitchy. Both Quattro and Athene gave advice not nasty comments.

There are sometimes comments that are uncalled for and nasty but they are rarely left unchallenged.

PorphyrophillicPixie · 14/02/2010 11:17

This article is weird, it does tell the truth somewhat (but we all know it's cliquey and bitchy here!) but it uses shit examples as you have all pointed out.

I remember my first time on here I went running back to my nanny forum to say I hated it! Now you can't get me off

If I don't like the bitchiness I either disagree with my opinion and reasons or get lost when I think I'm being ripped apart (which I have been a couple of times). That's the way of forums and I'd much rather be here then somewhere that is illiterate and ten times more cliquey!

ginghamgiraffe · 14/02/2010 11:17

Bonsoir
think that's a library picture of justine
Am sure i've seen it before.

Tortington · 14/02/2010 11:17

sometimes we do get the pitchforks out - there is no denying it.

however, i can't remember the last time someone was hounded.

personally i think MN has improved BEYOND measure, and the people who ( full of their own self importance) used to drive such events have for the most part off fucked and gone fungal.

LazyJourno · 14/02/2010 11:17

That's me off the guest list then. Bugger.

Uriel · 14/02/2010 11:17

Agree with Custy.

Mumcentreplus · 14/02/2010 11:17
Hmm
Bonsoir · 14/02/2010 11:18

I wonder whether MNHQ feels out of its depth with (some of) its own posters?

Why otherwise would they object to clever and informed posters giving good, fact-based advice?

Bonsoir · 14/02/2010 11:19

And so, if it a standard picture? That proves nothing other than Justine doesn't like posing for photos every few days. Good on her!

smallorange · 14/02/2010 11:20

I do think there is a kind of mumsnet orthodoxy about certain things which is a bit offputting.

One example was a new poster, who sounded very young, asking for advice on weaning at 17weeks ( something which is not unusual where I live) and was immediately called a troll( she was utterly confused by this) and told she was a bad mother for even considering weaning before six months.

These threads make me want to crack open a fruit shoot, stick a greggs sausage roll in my daughter's mouth and fire tha au pair ( if I had one.)

Tortington · 14/02/2010 11:22

why would MN HQ POSSIBLY be in cahoots with that journo and that article bonsoir?

foxinsocks · 14/02/2010 11:25

she got an invite to the party custardo

she's one of the chosen

OrmRenewed · 14/02/2010 11:26

"and told she was a bad mother for even considering weaning before six months. "

Oh bugger me I do agree with that! I love MN but the feeding/food thing gets a bit much a times. There are many many ways to nourish a child.

Bonsoir · 14/02/2010 11:26

For the reasons I have advanced, Custardo.

I think it's a bit misguided, personally. But then, there are quite a lot of things MNHQ do that I think are a bit misguided (recent attempts at MNTV come to mind).

DuelingFanjo · 14/02/2010 11:28

I hate the word "cliquey" when used in the context of forums. It's so lazy.

well Bonsoir a stock photo and an invitation to a party does not a conspiritor make - so what other reasons have you advanced?

Bonsoir · 14/02/2010 11:30

LOL at being invited to the party. I'm sure I'm on their personal blacklist!

DuelingFanjo · 14/02/2010 11:30

although...

where's my invite for the 10th anniversary party?
