here

I hope the link works.

Very sad - apparently the luger's have been saying the track was too fast and unsafe.

Gosh that is terribly sad

The ioc are crying during that video

The first athlete ever to die during a winter olympic winter games - and this was just a training event

It shows just how dangerous an event the luge is I guess - I think I have just read online that its the fastest track ever, 100mph

It makes it a dangerous death slide rather than a sport at that speed surely - I dont think it should have been allowed to build a track so fast

ToccataAndFudge · 13/02/2010 00:50

saw that earlier - very sad

LauraIngallsWilder · 13/02/2010 00:51

ditto for how dangerous the skeleton bobsleigh must be too

What a terribly tragic start to the winter olympics

They are now saying the track is not unsafe (though they are raising the wall at the 16th turn). I don't see how they can say the track had nothing to do with it when the athletes have been saying all week it is very very fast, and many of them have had accidents - thankfully none others this bad.

Either way, very very sad.

It seems they are now going ahead with the luge - because the track is safe, apparently

They seem to be blaming the accident on the georgian man himself, saying he didnt anticipate the turn properly - sounds like a copout to me

The luge is insanely dangerous though, you can tell - can't you? That is what makes it so difficult and presumably quite fun.

Feel sad that he died, but it happens.
