I have just read about this. It's covered in the Guardian but here is a very interesting (though long) post by an author who's being disadvantaged by this, about the dispute.

Must admit that while I love the convenience of buying from Amazon, when Borders went under I started to feel a little uneasy about their dominance and this has increased that feeling.

Use bookfinder.com - you get really good prices.

The small booksellers listed on abebooks.com or biblio.com are often much better value than Amazon anyway, unless you are after a blockbuster.

Borders was never very good... their book selection was very poor given how big some of their stores were, and the staff I spoke to didn't even know very much about books!

For impulse buys, I prefer browsing in second hand bookshops with tiny twisty aisles. All the better if books are scattered haphazardly across the shelves and floor, and the owner wouldn't be allowed into Tescos because he is still in his pyjamas...
