Plans are being put in place to head off disruption of the road network in Glasgow by G8 protesters, Strathclyde Police have said.
The Kingston Bridge on-ramp at Waterloo Street has been closed. Foot and vehicle patrols have been placed at both sides of the bridge.

The anti-G8 group Dissent plans to hold an event called Boogie on the Bridge as part of action against climate change.

The Riot Police were sent here to Grangemouth as a decoy!!! They had no intention of coming here.

How about Jig in the Jail? That sounds like a better one for all these folks.

Anyone else sick to the back teeth of these 'protesters'? I think if they're not from here and are convicted of criminal behaviour and they should be deported and banned from entering the UK again.

They should be there by now and they are planning to block of the whole bridge!!! Can you imagine what it's going to be like??? It's bad enough if one lane is closed coz of a breakdown!!

I'm sad about these protests. There NEEDS to be protest. It's right and proper that people express their disgust at the lack of action of the G8 on the issues of climate change, globalisation and third world debt for example.
Some demonstrators are trying to do this peacefully but their demo is being hijacked by extreme violent maniacs.

Funnily enough this plays straight into the hands of George Bush by preventing proper discussion on the issues. The anarchists are probably on his payroll after all. What's the going rate for an agent provocateur?

Dh has just texted me and said he's caught up in this on his way to the special olympics closing ceremony. He's with a group of people with learning difficulties who won't know what's going on.

I thought they were meant to protest at the refinery in Grangemouth. We got put on alert at work cause the figured if they were going to do BP then they'd pop into my work seeing as it's on the road to gleneagles.
After watching the news over the past few days, you've got to wonder about the sense in Bob Geldof asking people to march on scotland. I saw a street in Stirling and people were going round smashing things up for no apparent reason. What does that have to do with peaceful and just protest. It's highlighted the cause but probably to the wrong people. I fully expect to be shouted at now for lack of understanding. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

gscyrm - I think Geldof asked the protestors to march on Scotland - not the hooligans. And of course the protestors are there - just not getting much coverage because of the hooligans (most of whom when asked don't even know what they're "protesting" about!)

I know, I suppose protest will always bring hooligans and people just interested in causing trouble. I agree that it's wrong that the hooligans are the ones who get all the publicity and lost in amongst it all are the people who turn up to make their feelings and objections heard, like the guy at my work who goes to anti-war protests with placards saying 'war is naughty'.

Watching the pictures of them in Sterling I couldn't help but wonder what they'd actually do if they got inside the police van. Not that I condone violence but they'd run a mile at any serious confrontation. They're such a bunch of cowards and phoneys.
