donations/help thread for victims?

I would like to propose that we set up an official MN fund for the victims and their families. If we start now, perhaps we can gather enough support and money to get help for any MNers & their loved ones who might need it. Temporary shelter, food, reassurance & of course money... please let me know, tech, if you agree.

Will people need shelter in reality ? Have any residential sites been attacked ?

sorry, pc locked up

Nice thought hakuna.

Heathcliffscathy · 07/07/2005 13:22

it's an awful awful awful attack, but, whilst this will be no consolation at all to those who've lost someone or been injured, the scale is not anything like the twin towers attack or even madrid...thank god.

If people working in central london are being told not to leave their offices, there will be much need of help by this evening.

nice thought but i think it's a little of an over reaction.

SaintGeorge · 07/07/2005 15:18

Sorry, but I agree.

As far as we can tell people are safe - if they do have to stay in the city tonight I think there will be ample provision for them.

HappyDaddy · 07/07/2005 15:21

And how are we to get any provisions to people anyway? We're being advised to stay away from central london.

hakuna · 07/07/2005 15:22

Okay... shelve idea, maybe later. Hard to know from where I am what action is needed and it's frustrating not being able to do SOMETHING. Thinking of step-dd, how will she get home, etc.

It is a lovely idea but I am sure that all of us who may be stuck in London tonight will be well provided for

beansprout · 07/07/2005 15:23

Most management teams will be meeting to decide how best to support their staff as the day goes on. My own workplace and dp's as well are suggesting people stay with colleagues who live nearest, given that in all probability they are likely to be walking home tonight!!

hakuna · 07/07/2005 15:33

btw, happydaddy, was thinking of MNers living near those working in central London this evening. Also, in the longer term, of any MNers & their families directly affected by this tragedy (injury, death) and what can be done to support them. Fortunately it now seems that not many are dead, although many "seriously injured". According to the BBC.
