A mother has been jailed for subjecting her son to "enduring" cruelty by pretending he was severely ill to gain publicity and financial rewards.

The actions of Lisa Hayden-Johnson, 35, from Devon, led to him being operated on, Exeter Crown Court heard.

She also presented him in a wheelchair to the Duchess of Cornwall, appeared on television and spent charity donations.

She was jailed for three years and three months after admitting cruelty and perverting the course of justice.

Absolutely sick!

I agree it is sick.

However I am going to point out now that this is exceeedingly rare.DLA for children (or indeed adults but not got there yet) is hard to get and needs backing up by professionals. This woman was very dedictaed in her attempts to defraud, and people must realise that the majority of people getting DLAare doing so legally, even in fact probably lower than they should.

I despise this woman for what she did to her son and the system, but also for the knock on effect it has on genuine claimants.

Sorry, soapbox over.

I think 3 years is not enough. How will that child ever recover from the damage she has inflicted upon him?

I am gobsmacked that it has taken so long for her deception to come to light. Will there be an investigation concerning the medical professionals that she fooled?
