PLEASE talk to your children about this:

it's so sad and worrying (not DM)

hmm, bit scaremongery innit

onagar · 22/01/2010 19:23

Sad, but nearly 18 so hardly a child. Are small children really doing this?

We used to do this in the early 80's. Some things never change, I personally never took part because even at 12 I knew it was stupid.

psychoveggie · 23/01/2010 19:58

We used to do it and it was called giving a "fainty". It was pretty stupid but I don't think we probably took it as far as some. The reason people do it is obvious though, it creates a weird dream-like experience and it's fun. (To a silly teenager, I hasten to add I wouldn't do it now).

er, isn't this just an extension of 'another tory found with bin bag on head after sex romp went wrong'? asphyxia has been used in similar ways for donkeys... all a bit weird if you ask me, but nothing new - shame if it's the next big thing for teens but at least it means that they won't turn to a life of crime to support a habit that could destroy their lives. young people will always find something dangerous and daft to do tbh - drink, drugs, glue-sniffing, aerosols, petrol lol - can't say that this surprises me overmuch, even though it makes me a bit uncomfortable...

We used to do this at my school when I was 14/15...every so often the dinner ladies would tell us to stop it but never seemed overly concerned, which in hindsight is a bit worrying!

We used to breather shallowly for a few minutes, then cross arms over our chest and another girl would push us hard against a wall, we would pass out for a few seconds and have weird 'dreams'.

Now I never smoked and certainly didn't do drugs etc - I suppose we were just looking for an 'out of the ordinary' experience. V stupid, looking back.
