Since when is paying taxes a choice?

Don't like the tax, vote out the party which taxes you. Can't find a party to do that - join one and change it from the inside.

I doubt any of the investment bankers at RBS deserve a bonus but that doesn't mean I can or should stop paying MY tax.

We need to fund schools, hospitals, transport, welfare and the military. That means we pay tax.

I met someone last week who is adament that payingtax in the UK is illegal and that there is some old law saying that tax payment cannot be enforced. He gave me a website about it and there are loads of people on this forum who all believe it and quote some old legislation.

They're getting a case together to take to court or something.

Good on him! Maybe we should all follow his example and he can pick up the pieces when society starts to crumble around us....

Bobbybee · 19/01/2010 18:06

Thats just ridiculous.
I'm sure we can all find reasons for not paying tax. I'm against the Afghanistan and Iraq war for example. Should I stop paying too?

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 19/01/2010 18:08

but will he still talk to the taxman about poetry?

EleanoraBuntingCupcake · 19/01/2010 18:09

fred goodman and his ilk are a right bunch of hateful fuckers.

Ah. Billy, he of the rambling seaside retreat in Dorset, the doors of which he regularly throws open to interior decorating magazines.

His 'partner' is.....an interior decorator with her own business.

Power to the proles eh Bill?

bibbitybobbityhat · 19/01/2010 22:34

Oh I'm afraid I love him for this. Its just a stunt. He makes a very good point. Power to the People!

CitizenPrecious · 19/01/2010 22:35

I do like billy. Bit bonkers but has a lovable side.

NotAPollyanna · 19/01/2010 22:45

There is always a place for anarchy. Bragg has got the issue back in the news, that is what it is about. I've moaned about it, but he is doing something about it. I hardly think society will break down as most of us will not follow suit but maybe it will encourage some more protest, debate and action.

bea · 19/01/2010 23:25

Squeeaal! I love you Billy!!!! runs away with girlish giggles!!!

susie100 · 21/01/2010 13:50

Do you think I can stop paying my council tax because they have stopped carrying out the basic services they are meant to.

No rubbish collected for 3 weeks (and no it has not been snowing for ages here)
