This shocked me to the core this morning. I am a student Occupational Therapist and have just spent time on placement on an elderly ward. I saw some heartbreaking things and heard some heartbreaking stories but nothing like this. How could this be allowed to happen? This poor couple have been let down by social services and Age Concern. They should have been entitled to home carers at the very least and this could possibly have saved them. The poor old lady must have gone through sheer hell calling for her husband in that freezing cold bungalow and then slowly realising something had happenned to him yet being unable to do anything to help him. I just pray it was quick for both of them and that valuable lessons have been learned for this.

What a tragedy. Horrible to think of the poor woman realising no-one was going to come. And frightening that it happened even though they had neighbours who looked out for them and who had asked for help.

I was really sad when I heard this earlier
