This guy is such a homophobic idiot.

I notice he has still had nothing to say about the endemic paedophilia in the Catholic church.

I was about to post a comment about his blase attitude to the rape of young children but see you beat me to it.

tiredlady · 11/01/2010 16:18

Grrr! He makes me go all shouty.
2 consenting adults having sex = wrong
1 male priest raping a child = perfectly ok and let's cover it all up and not make a fuss.
Total fecking idiot!

southeastastra · 11/01/2010 16:24

it's so depressing how the world seems to be going backwards - all on the belief of a giant invisible being

abra1d · 11/01/2010 16:27

I googled quickly and found that he has said quite a bit about child abuse:

Here he is apologising

here he is again

and again

Garrylous · 11/01/2010 16:27

god religion is shit

LadyBlaBlah · 11/01/2010 16:28

a giant invisible non-existent being. IMVHO.

I recently asked a Catholic priest his opinion on the God Delusion book by Richard Dawkins, and he got very aggressive and started shaking me (yes physically and the only excuse is that it was at a wedding and he had had a few beers) about how I could mention such an insulting book.

Goes without saying that there was no reasonable discussion about it......just a torrent of abuse.

exacklty what i was goiung to post madam. idiot.

shonaspurtle · 11/01/2010 16:33

People with these views always seem to be inferring that gay marriage is the thin end of the wedge that will turn us all gay and we won't any of us have children and then the human race will die out and then where will we be eh? eh? eh?

Barking.

TheWorldFamousKewcumber · 11/01/2010 16:34

I don;t understand why someone who's job is to reinforce the omnipotence of God seesm to imply that his existence would be so damaged by gay people (who presumably were created by God in the first place).

If there is a God I'm sure he'll struggle on in peaceable co-existance with gay people

OrmIrian · 11/01/2010 16:35

The pope says a lot of things.

I don't listen to any of them.

shonaspurtle · 11/01/2010 16:35

Yep, I don't think 10% of the population (and of course far less than that since lots of gay people have children) not procreating will stop the human race buggering (pun not intended) up the planet in a myriad of different, foolish, short-sighted ways.

Certainly far sooner than homosexuality will have any effect on creation.

YeahBut · 11/01/2010 16:36

Actually, the thing I find depressing is not so much that he says these stupid things, but that millions of people around the world will blindly accept that he is right.

seeker · 11/01/2010 16:38

So that's all right then, abraid1. Have any clergy actually been punished for the abuse and for the cover up?

BadGardener · 11/01/2010 16:39

silly Pope.
Glad I am not a Catholic.
My friend who is a gay Catholic says no-one she knows takes any notice of him, though.

southeastastra · 11/01/2010 16:41

it's not just the pope though, on that religious sunday morning show they were 'debating' about homosexuality and one woman vicar type thing thought they could be 'turned' through prayer . it's alot of cock.

Disenchanted3 · 11/01/2010 16:44

I no longer regard my self as catholic because of this kind of shit.

seeker · 11/01/2010 16:46

You know, I get [warning, controversy alert] really pissed off with gay Catholics. It's like being a black member of the BNP - what are they thinking of!

Snorbs · 11/01/2010 16:49

So the leader of a religion with a distinctly morally dubious history (both him and the religion) says something offensive, closed-minded and stupid. Again.

This is news? The man's like Prince Phillip in a frock and silly hat. He obviously can't not say stupid and offensive things.

harmonie33 · 11/01/2010 16:50

Treat to creation??.... Im a lesbian and currently CREATING RATHER THAT THREATENING as im pregnant.....

Im happy to hear peoples views, if they actually have some intelligent argument/substance to what they are saying.... This is just a statement!

seeker · 11/01/2010 16:52

And you can't just say, as a Catholic"Oh, take no notice of the Pope" You're not actually a Catholic if you do that - you're something else. A very High Anglican, perhaps?

KaySqueeHarker · 11/01/2010 16:54

It's hardly news, is it? The Catholic teaching about homosexuality hasn't changed.

posieparker · 11/01/2010 16:54

harmoine, I am sure you are a treat to creation!!!

abra1d · 12/01/2010 09:00

'Have any clergy actually been punished for the abuse and for the cover up? '

Yes. If you google 'mailed priests for sex abuse UK' you'll see quite a number--thank God. The police and CPS don't not prosecute because someone's a priest.

And if any are uncovered in the UK now, the congregation are under a strict obligation to go either to the child protection officer attached to the parish (who is lay and trained in child protection by bodies appointed post Nolan) or directly to the police.

I put out the pens at a Sunday school and had to leave because I was constantly asked to attend child protection courses which I couldn't make because of work and family obligations. They are (rightly) paranoid now.
