Here is a link to the Guardian article about our protest on Saturday. Please share it around and sign the petition.

I was blessed to recieve the care of two wonderful Albany midwives this year and it is shocking what Kings is doing to them.
It's a witch hunt, and once again women and babies are losing out.

And if you aren't familiar withe the excellent work the Albany do, check out their website.
There model of care is revered around the world. All women deserve it!

Signed petition.

I'm gutted about this - they're justly internationally renowned. How sad.

hester · 08/12/2009 19:43

Oh what a shame. They're such a great service. Do you think this could be connected to the Director of Midwifery leaving Kings to become Chief Exec of the RCM? Maybe Mumsnet should ask her what she thinks when they have their chat...

Shame, I can't comment, because I've learnt nothing from the Guardian piece or the video. I am interested because Kings is my local hospital and both my dc were born there.

What motive would Kings have for terminating their contract?

cory · 09/12/2009 09:17

The Guardian article says their motives are a higher rate of brain damage in the births managed by Albany midwives. Also that the decision seems to have been triggered by one birth which in their opinion was insufficiently monitored in order to allow a water birth and the baby died.

It's impossible to know how valid the reason is without knowing more of the facts.

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/12/2009 10:00

Exactly Cory. The story is very light on facts.

HollyBunda · 09/12/2009 10:16

And Kings isn't releasing the report and statistics they used.

It's a stitch up.

Please pass the petiton around to all you know. This will effect the future of all NHS midwives, not just the Albany.

No, I am not going to sign a petition or pass it round to everyone I know unless I know what its about. "Its all a stitch up" doesn't cut it with me, I'm afraid.

What is the benefit to Kings of discontinuing this contract? Please??

HollyBunda · 09/12/2009 13:21

Well it's not difficult to find some information out. Why don't you call Kings then and ask them. Oh right, they won't tell you, it's confidential.

Don't sign it then. Don't find anything else out. Sit there at your computer and ask a messageboard to tell you more and let another group that actually cares about women go down the pan.

You seem to know a lot about it. That's why I'm asking!!! But luckily I've got more information from the other thread that's running on this topic.

What an extraordinary attitude .
