Good reply Scary.

BitOfFun · 05/12/2009 19:53

Well said, scaryteacher.

Deadworm · 05/12/2009 19:54

The media makes a saint of a celebrity, for no good reason, and then tears the same celebrity to pieces. MN played along with the celebrity saint status so now it has to put up with the next part of the dance. Bit like Jade Goody really.

foxytocin · 05/12/2009 20:19

ho hum. next article please.

OrmIrian · 05/12/2009 20:24

Oh isn't she a delicate flower ?

OrmIrian · 05/12/2009 20:25

And yes, well done that scaryteacher!

PoppyIsApain · 05/12/2009 20:43

I have left a comment!

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 05/12/2009 20:54

"On a discussion thread this week, for instance, one mother made the mistake of expressing dismay that her daughter's primary school class had been discussing lesbianism and civil partnerships."

It was the Telegraph setting us up! And I thought it was the Mail!

ImSoNotTelling · 05/12/2009 21:14

Clocked it poppy

I was also that they chose a thread which was pretty cut and dried (the lesbian/civil partnership one) to evidence MNers ganging up and all saying the same thing.

And not everyone agreed on that thread anyway...

Downside of all of this is that my mum keeps saying "you go on mumsnet don't you?" and quizzing me about stuff...

humptynumpty · 05/12/2009 21:37

this article is ridiculous, I commented. In fact if you post about bf v ff or reusable v disposable or any other parenting topic, you will get a torrent of comments supporting both sides, so to suggest that all on MN are like one mind targeted at shooting down anybody who dares to disagree is ludicrous

OrmIrian · 05/12/2009 21:39

Love the idea that there is a 'house' opinion.

VirginPeachyMotherOfSpod · 05/12/2009 21:45

Oh FFS

never pick up on those of us with a more (usually, heck only human) liberal edge do they? Those who try and be alittle lessconfrontational(except with politicians, it's what they do ffs- if you can't handle us you can't debate army increases with blinkin Obama for sure).

Look, Mumsnet is great if you like it. If you don't there is no forcing people to stay. Find somewhere you dolike, there's plenty on offer. One size fits all works for nobody, and websites is included. But just as I would tear myeyes out if I had to sit on a Jordan fan site for a while, some people won't like it here. Hey ho, there's no evil in that.

AnnieLobeseder · 05/12/2009 23:18

BUt why oh why does every article bang on about us being middle-class Boden-wearing bitches? Cos I ain't middle class (well, maybe a little!) and I don't wear Boden! I am a bitch though....

Seriously, why are we made out to be some sort of pack of clones where everyone thinks exactly the same on every issue. Gawd, how boring would that be!?!

chegirlwithbellson · 05/12/2009 23:31

I think its very funny I am described as middle class by the Daily Mail and Telgraph.

(when I say 'I' am mean as part of the homongenous (sp) group that is mumsnet)

If only they could see me on the school run in my pink velour tracksuit with my mixed race babies and Paris Hilton doggie in the buggy.

Twod totally disabuse them of that little notion Innit!

ronshar · 05/12/2009 23:47

I am going to say very quitely that some of what she said is true.
If you dont BF then you are made to feel like a failure, in general.
If you dont BLW then you are made to feel a bad mother, in general.
Some poster's are vicious and nasty and seem to have lost the mute button.

I love MN and when I had two MC's a few years ago I seriously could not have got through it without the support I found here.

However from when I joined to now I would say that the level of comment has sunk to a lower level.
Sometimes that is good because I can keep up with some of the threads easier.

Why cant the Jounalist leave their working from home studies and get off their asses and do some real investigative work.
Like uncovering the groups of men who snares young girls and pimp them out, or finding out why our schools are failing lots of children, or why some hospital have an unacceptable level of deaths.
You know issuses that actually matter!!!

ronshar · 05/12/2009 23:48

See I cant spell or punctuate evry well

gigglewitch · 05/12/2009 23:56

chegirl

why have we got so worthy of comment all of a sudden? Are they short of 'proper' news or something?

I'm getting REALLY tired of all these articles about Mumsnet bashing politicians and bullying non-breastfeeding mums and harassing poor Gordon Brown about frickin' BISCUITS!

ENOUGH!

These politicians have come along for a 'chat' and have been met with quite a few well researched questions, and have been 'shouted' at by a few, but there you go, that's what happens to politicians. I think journalists are surprised that people on mumsnet have opinions and aren't just all fluffy and inane. So they jumped at the bloody biscuit thing. As for Miliband, well he is supposed to be mindful of the environment, so he should be ready to debate about reusable nappies v disposables. Mumsnet shouldn't be berated for taking him to task on this.

End of rant.

brightongirldownunder · 06/12/2009 01:27

I think our Jessica has had a grilling on here and went crying to the Telegraph...boo hooo....
I left a post too.
Don't suppose there's ever been a critical piece on housepricecrash.com has there? Oh I forgot, they're all telegraph readers...

brightongirldownunder · 06/12/2009 01:29

Sorry I meant Jemima

thell · 06/12/2009 01:41

That's not journalism, it's a bloody whinge!
I somehow need to channel Stephen Fry for an appropriate riposte.

scaryteacher · 06/12/2009 13:20

I'm a Telegraph reader BrightonGirl, hence my post defending MN. I love the fact that we are all different on here, that's what makes it such fun.

Thank you for the gold stars as well and the kind words. I loved the DT poster who asked what happens if you don't go on MN. He reckoned it was nothing - I reckon it's the housework!
