New York says No to Gay Marriage?

here

I'm shocked. I would have thought New York would have been one of those places gay marriage would be embraced.

I think it's very sad that same sex couples are still not getting fair treatment. And I really don't understand how an organisation to "protect same sex marriage" can be anti gay marriage - it's not like previously hetrosexual people will be now instantly divorcing their partners to marry someone of the same sex.

I'm disgusted by this but sadly not surprised at the verdict.

As for the article that's a typo as the NOM are certainly very anti same sex marriage.

Isn't New York prodominantly catholic and Jewish? You have the Irish quarter, the Jewish quarter, the Italian quarter and not sure what the other quarter is then there's little china and the Muslim areas so i'm not completely shocked by the decision.. but as with the Swiss, this is democracy in action, we can't all get what we want, when we want it.

I really don't think that people should be allowed to make decisions like this that discriminate against others on the basis of their race, religion or sexuality.

Would we now allow people to vote if interracial marriage should be banned? I think not,yet there are people who are against it, so why is it acceptable to deny people the right to marry because of their sexuality?
